Thanks Doc! Some really nice areas and tons of great food and drinks around here....

But... The people here drive like assholes. I'll be going 45 in the 40mph zone and people pass me like I'm standing still. Everyone honks at everyone. People cut you off because they don't know how to plan... Nearly miss their exit so they try and cause an accident to get to their exit before passing it.

I'm in no hurry... But I don't drive under the speed limit either... But i also haven't seen the first cop on the major roads.. I'm thinking the speed limit is just a suggestion here LMAO

Granted it's prolly the same in most larger cities but i normally drive in small country towns so it's just been like... WOW.

Other than the drivers it's been a wonderful trip. We will be back. But next time bringing the kids.

Not to be insulting to our Northern bretren, but this is where their parents retire. So they drive like they are back in the big cities they came from.

We natives (and there are few of us left) know what the cause is, but we're just polite.

Yes, I am a native Tampon.

Heh heh

Doc

That sort of driving is not pervasive up here...
There are certain sub-categories who predictably drive like idjits in higher ratios than others...

I know. The wife made me keep my clothes on. Next time I'll try and perfect this great art!

Haha

As long as you're a clean native Tampon :)

I'm back in the woods now. Good times never last long enough. But I'm happy to be home. Peaceful and quiet.

broke the A-frame on my brush hog.
snapped a spindle mount off my lawn tractor mowing deck.
discovered our "freeze-proof" faucet wasn't -- after SWMBO spent 2 1/2 hours gardening this afternoon....
at least it was only raining a little while I was taking the thing out of the wall.....
tomorrow a trip to the building supply store to buy a new faucet.

on the plus side, no knives were damaged in any of the above -- and I'm not bleeding, bruised, or otherwise injured.

My New England parents retired to.....Maine. They can't take the heat and the general, uh....."retirement" mentality of Snowbirds. They still travel in the winter, but I think they'd melt in a Florida winter. Plus, there'd be nothing to complain about or, more importantly, weather to talk about. No offense to our southern brethren, but....people here don't normally drive that fast. They are, instead, wildly unpredictable even when they're only going 10-15 MPH over the speed limit. That, plus driving AT the posted limit, plus, you know, Boston.....that's where some real serious $#!+ takes place. Not for the faint of heart.

the description of Florida drivers sounds a lot like my memories of driving in NJ 20+ years ago.
many of those folks would be approaching (or past) retirement age now.......

driving in Boston is an effing funhouse. You won't catch me doing that except under extreme duress.
And I drive in New York City. (or used to, now I don't go there if I don't have to either)
Just one more reason Boston doesn't measure up. ;)

I drove to Boston once, to a hotel. We took a cab the next day. It is indeed an effing funhouse to drive in.

I used to live in Denver with 2 million other crazy people. It seemed normal. For the last 4 years I have lived an hour north of Denver in a small farm town. Its calm and quiet. Taxi cabs and tow trucks wont even come out here. When I have to go down to Denver the traffic, noise and people stress me out and all I want to do is handle my business and get the heck out of there.

I am getting so good at breaking the snark. Hey get over here young man, let me tell you something. yap yap yap. :abnormal:

So here is a picture of my newest KABAR. Its my KABA.

It apparently had a rust problem at some point. Looks like someone buffed and polished it so much to remove the rust that you can barley see the R. I got it cheap enough I can use it and play with it instead of worrying about damaging it.

I dont need an R. KABA!

Oh yeah that's a 1968 Zippo with the original 1968 insert in it.

Y'all have it easy. :P

Seattle is ranked top-10 for congestion and top-10 for bad drivers, pair those 2 together and you understand why the pedestrians are ranked the most respectful in the country, the ones that challenge the drivers get killed.

City driving is the worst here, most of the time you're going at a crawl speed yet people still manage to run red lights and cut across multiple lanes with abandon. Biking on the street is probably the most dangerous activity in the city, at least through downtown; if you can manage to climb all the steep hills you have idiots who don't pay attention and turn across traffic into you or turn right with you next to them. Rear-view and side-view mirrors are almost never used, at least not for their intended purpose; they are often used as weapons to strike other cars or people.

it's a mess.

The joys of being a landowner.

I had a freeze proof faucet that was leaking due to a crack in the stem. I wrapped the stem with a layer of Teflon tape, then wrapped that with gorilla tape. It's been about two months, and it's still working fine.

it's less than $25 for the replacement faucet - I'm just waiting for the rain to stop so I can replace the broken one.
mower deck spindle & housing ran me about $60.
new 6' mower is going to be upwards of $1300 -- and yesterday driving home the transfer case and/or front CV joints on the truck were making ugly noises. <sigh>
what to sell, what to sell.....

That is awesome. Love the main blade on that slipjoints. Nice find!

My phone randomly stopped recognizing the sim card today so I had to dig out the old Droid, circa 2009, until I procure a new phone, which I had been thinking about doing anyway.
