Boron Carbide Coatings

Great Darrell, I just cant wait to take a bite! I am glad there is Stellite in the middle rather that ham or peanut butter! :D

Guess who's coming to dinner!!! Stellite 6 Sandwiched
between two slabs of CP Titanium sounds like a real nice
meal.

Darrell,

Out of curiosity, how would it work to put the boron carbide finish on a stick tang knife, like a hunter or bowie? Can the guard be soldered to the coating? Or would the guard need to be already soldered and in place so that it would have to be coated also. Another option might be to apply the boron carbide just to the blade and not the tang so that it wouldn't interfere with the guard, if that is even possible.

Out of those choices which one would work the best?

Thanks for your help,

David

David I think the best way is for us to mask off the tang so only the blade would be coated.A soldered guard will work as long as your braze
material can take 300F. Hope this helps.

Darrell is coating some blade for me also.

I had to try it on carbide end mills.
It extended the life of the tool by about 25 percent!
