BOS-Basic Outdoor Survival Knife

I got my GCM BOS from Brian Andrews today.
For all the apprehension I feel every time I open the mailbox and see what is likely a knife, it immediately dissipates when I realize where it's coming from. I have come to expect NOT to be disappointed when I get one of Bryan's knives. This one was no different. In fact, I found that Bryan is doing his edges a little differently now and it's very much like the edge I have put on a number of his previous knives myself.

I have to tell you that this knife is "something else." "What," exactly, I can't say yet, except to share that it puts a great big smile on my face when I handle it. The tall, flat-ground blade is VERY intriguing, the dimensions are about perfect, to my thoughts and the handle, well, the handle feels, for all the world, like the handle of a garden tool. It's a bit of a fat oval in cross-section and is quite and-filling. The width will be great for distributing pressure across a larger area of you hand in heavy use and gives the knife a very "substantial" feel. It feels great just handling it but I am sure it will be very comfortable in heavy cutting. This knife is a TOOL.

I have managed to wreck a particularly nice piece of leather (the sheath) already, as the knife has cut nearly through the back of it. It's a shame too because this was my own first Breeden sheath and I was not particularly interested in wrapping this one in "hot plastic."

I will play with it as soon as possible and provide some "dirty pictures" for others to enjoy.

Nice work, Bear' and Bryan and "thanks, Brian for super service and very fast delivery.:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks Jeff. Did you get the 1/8-inch stock? I was using the 1/16-inch thin ??? knife today splitting oak, that went well but I do intend on keeping the thinner one in the food and utility section.

I was wondering who snagged those ones from Brian! I had been chatting with him about those for a little while, I was trying to get a vibe about them prior to bear's review. I think that will be a popular model for sure! Really dig the large, comfy grip and simple lines. Less is more.

1/8", Bear'.
It feels good with that width and the attendant mass. I would like to try this one with a wood handle too now just to see how it feels.

After talking with Bryan Breeden today he has been getting calls about the ??? knife in some interesting sizes. One guy wanted a 14-inch version. I know Bryan made up a 4 1/4-inch blade version for a customer and likes it alot! He may just make more.

aaaahhhh man jeff.... :o that is good to hear... now i am going to have to get one of these knives and find out for myself, what they're all about..... i really like the nice wide blade shape.... :)

hope to see some pics soon jeff... and some nice kydex...

I can see this one in other sizes. In fact, the handle has started to influence my ideas about what I wll do with my 5" Spearpoint Pathfinder (with the "Hamilton Handle":o). The girth could go well on that one and it is similar in a few other ways. Granted, though it will be "similar," those little subtle differences make a big difference in handling and performance, so it is great to see these design ideas materialize in such profusion.

Mike, pics will definitely be coming.
