Boss Jack....

I like a choil on large knives to make it easier to use for detail work in a pinch.

I do not like a choil on most medium knives, or on small knives.

No choil for the Boss Jack. ;)

I just picked up a brand new boss jack proto with the fuller and double cut finish along with a kydex sheath and tek-loc for less than 400.00 on another forum , if your interested i think he's got one left... email me.

I've already contacted him. I'd be interested in it if for some reason Garth is unable to put one together for me. But that double cut finish puts me off. Finishes like that tend to corrode easy.

After a little reading on the double cut finish, it is not as corrosion prone as I thought it would be.

Double Cut is an awesome finish the second fine bead blast seals the surface. I used one out saltwater fishing and just wiped it clean and light oil wipe at the
end of the day. As with all my carbon steel just a little preventative maintenance keeps them in top notch shape. Any blade put away with moisture can potentially
show corrosion.

Renwax is great for DC finish also. It still looks matte and you can't really even see that it is on there. You can get it up in the tight places with a q-tip, like at the front of the scales.

Even with heavy use, it will stay in all the low places, which are the only places that matter.

You can also take it up to ghetto satin with minimal effort, since you won't need to strip and the dimples are already removed.

I'm going to pull the trigger on the DC Boss Jack. The price seems right and it already comes with a sheath.

So, I purchased one of these knives

Some questions about carrying this one with the Mashed Cat sheath. Do any of you guys carry a similar rig? If so, do you use the Tek-Lock? I am almost considering the drop loop and thigh strap for when I'm in the woods and at work. If I decide to get a leather rig, I'll probably have RayBan do it, as he did the sheaths for two other knives for me that turned out great. The one was one of the best I've ever had. It was for my Dalton Assassin, and I had him use a magnetic closure for the flap instead of velcro or a snap. The N52 neodymium magnets really hold tight, and it is totally silent removing the knife. I attached a few pictures of it below, it's a one of the most badass (and impracticle) switchblades I've owned...

Also, with the convex edge of these thick but smaller blades, would I be able use a pasted strop most of the time for dressing up the edge? I have white and black Spyderco sticks that I usually just use freehand, and a few strops and paste.

Okay, I've been reading about this damn knife all day. So far the only real complaint I've seen about this knife is the edge profile. Some seem to think that the edge is just too thick. What's your opinion? I would think having the edge thinned out would make this a better slicer, right? Would reprofiling effect the warranty?

I had one - if it had been choilless, I might still have it.
from the factory, it's one of the best designs for a "field knife" I've handled -- but I'm not in the military any more and it would have benefited greatly from thinning the profile for use as a "woods knife".
the handle should fit your hands just fine.

Looks like some boss jacks are available in Santa Ganza...

I saw that. I already have mine on the way though. Of course, Two knives are always better than one. Well..... unless they are being jammed into your chest cavity. Then even one would just suck.

I'm thinking the BJ proto that I have coming has a 40 degree edge profile. I might have it brought up to 30 degrees. I think the steel should maintain it's extreme toughness and slice like a champ as well at that angle.

no knife in our house is too pretty to beat up, even the pretty ones. LOL Heck, we have used the Gladius and the Butaniku. We are a perfect storm of crazy/beautiful though :)
You must be the beautiful one and your hubby is the crazy one? (crazy about you that is) ;):D

So... I got my Boss Jack. Awesome knife...

The only thing that I am not 100% crazy about is the handle material itself. The size and shape are perfect for me, but the canvas is awful slick. I've been reading about the resiprene c and it seems like the perfect material for me. Is this something that could be put on the BJ? If not, what else would work to give this knife a grippier feel? How about shrink wrap?
