I bought a griptillian today has 154cm steel. Well i actually traded my manix 2 and few bucks for the new Benchmade. It wasn't because i didnt like the spyderco but the spyderco manix 2 is a thick knife and was a tough fit with my phone and stuff in my work pants. Besides that issue i did like the knife. But i bought the benchmade and definitely think i made a good choice. I do not know a lot about 154cm but i love the knife. I loved the kershaw they had to i forget the name but it had the elmax steel but i preferred the handle of the grippy. The kershaw was nice and it wad a tough choice. How do you guys like the 154cm?

I handled a fullsize griptillian and an emissary yesterday at army navy. I was really expecting more from the griptillian from looking at pictures, didn't like it personally. But I absolutely loved the emissary. The texture is amazing on that. I've heard 154cm is really good though, you should be pretty satisfied.

154CM is excellent steel.

Actually CPM154/154CM is the only stainless steel I really like.

Good balance of wear resistance, toughness, and very easy to put a really good edge on.

Benchmade does a great job with the HT on their 154 blades....

Benchmade's 154CM is good stuff, much like Emerson's. Doesn't hold an edge as well as D2 (compared to my BM 710 and Cabella's Grippie in that steel), but sharpens easily, is tough, quite stain resistant. Wish they both would switch to CPM154 as on my BassPro 110. That seems to me to sharpen easier and take a finer edge; being a CPM steel it should be tougher as well.

I cringe every time I hear someone is stuffing their phone and knife in the same pocket...

I like 154CM. Takes a sweet razor edge with relative ease. Did your Manix2 have S30V ?

Congrats on your new knife. Personally , I feel the Manix2 (especially if it has S30V) is a cut above the Grip. But if size was the main issue then you'll be happier with the Grip since the Manix2 is pretty wide and a bit heavy.

If the Kershaw had a grippy handle and Elmax steel, you were looking at an Elmax Blur. Personally, I would have taken that; in terms of edge retention, Elmax outclasses 154CM and S30v. That said, 154CM isn't a bad steel by any means, it's a good, well-rounded steel that doesn't seem to have any issues; I carried a Mini-griptilian with it for a while, and it served well.

I dont like the Griptillian But I enjoy 154 Cm steel its pretty easy to but a razor edge on... Keeps a decent edge.

I changed up my whole pocket configuration when I started getting seriously into knives for just that reason.

This!

Pretty sure it was a knockout with elmax. It was a nice knife but i preferred the comfort of the grip. I liked the speed safe opening on the kershaw but i like that the benchmade is easier to close i prefer the pocket clip of the kershaw but benchmade is sending me a deep pocket clip. I prefer blade shape and handle of the benchmade though. Also im not a huge fan of s30v so if elmax is even harder to sharpen than it is there is a good chance i wont like it.

Ah, I am an infidel who carries his knife and phone in the same pocket, only because my front left pocket is the only one that (prior to carrying a knife and phone) never had anything in it. I tend to carry pretty thin knives at work, so there is plenty of room.

That being said, none of my Benchmade folders - 275, 300 and 760 - fit my definition of "office EDC" by any stretch of the imagination, and would get a dedicated pocket for sure.

Me too. My phone outgrew my pocket anyway, so I bought a holster for it and stuck it on my hip. Doing that freed up the pocket I used to carry my phone in. Now I use that pocket for exclusive EDC carry. And that works out real well for me as I don't use pocket clips.

OP, congrats on the new knife. I'm a big fan of Benchmade and the axis lock. I think you'll be more than happy with the 154cm

Would you mind elaborating on this? Just curious as my pocket space is also limited for what I need to carry and while it's not typical; occasionally the knife and phone do end up in the same pocket.

154CM is a really good all around steel, and benchmade does it well. Not a huge fan of the grip, but it's a good knife.

Congrats on the new blade!

That is definitely a hall of fame model - one of the greatest EDCs ever made. For me, the Grip was my first "premium" production folder. At the time, I only had some Byrd, CRKT, and Gerber knives so the Benchmade was a step up in price range. Never looked back though, I have multiple Griptilians now with the Ritter style blade. I highly recommend looking into custom scales too - the knife feels completely different with a nice set of G10, micarta, or even titanium pants.

The Grip is a great little EDC knife. I have no issues with the 154cm. It takes a nice edge with several different methods of sharpening I have around the house, and it holds an edge well.
