Bought a Buck 110

Yes. It's a Walmart purchase 110 in a clam shell with nylon sheath. Now I'm kicking myself for throwing the packaging. I don't like clam shells and tossed it out. It indicates the 110 is an Avid level or series knife, intended for hard use. I think you posted some beautiful custom shop 110s a short time ago. The Walmart version is pretty nice but isn't perfect. In the review I linked to above, you can see a minor gap along the backspring. Also, the blade isn't perfectly centered. Overall, I still think it's just fine. I think it's a steal at $27.97! The heat treat is fantastic! I can tell how good a heat treat is when I sharpen a knife and put it to use. My 110 and Vanguard are right up there with my better knives.

Got my new Buck 110 50th anniversary knife a few weeks ago. What a great piece of kit. I owned a 501 for over 30 years now and wanted the larger knife for my collection. It is a great design and quality build. I just ordered a custom sheath from Vass Leather. Looking forward in getting that to carry my new 110 in it.

I saw the ratings on a different thread, just never saw anyone refer to one as an avid series. Plus his review of current fit and finish . I think more of a random example.

Yep. It's just one example of fit and finish. If you take it for what it is, one review, and then check the fit and finish of current 110s shown on YouTube and here, you can get a good idea of overall fit and finish. I think it's pretty good!

My brother brought over his old LB7. I think he got it in the early 80s. He wanted a Buck 110, and my mom bought the Schrade. He was disappointed but accepted it. We compared it to my new Buck. The LB7 has perfect blade centering. Mine doesn't. It has no gaps in the backspring. Mine has a gap along one side. The rosewood slabs on the LB7 are fantastic! The blades seem nearly identical in shape and are equally sharp. I did the sharpening for him. It came in a beautiful leather sheath. Overall, it was a little nicer than the Buck, but I like them both! I told him I would trade, but he should keep the LB7 and be happy with it. He went home feeling better about it, but still likes the Buck!

Love the 110, it's has a true classic look. Could be the only big folder i can use, when going out, as in forests, meal preparing and such activities.

did they bring back manufacture to the US?

The 110 has never been manufactured anywhere other than the USA.

I'm really liking this 110! Its first two tasks were nothing spectacular, but it was a dandy at doing them! My first task was to cut up celery and carrots. It sliced through the stuff like nothing. Next, I was tasked with cutting raisins into tiny pieces. My mom makes cookies for the grandkids. They go crazy over them, not knowing there are raisins in them, as they just look like tiny, dark pieces when I'm done with them. In spite of constant contact with a plastic cutting board, there was no noticeable dulling of the blade. It's going to be a good cutter! I have to get a deer so I can use it for trimming the meat.

Sharper than factory edge?! My first and so far only 110 bit me right after opening! It was so scary sharp right from Buck, that I rue the day I have to put it to a stone. Sharper than factory on my 110 would be a lightsaber.

Love these knives btw, heavy, slow to deploy, but man do they ever cut!

Jason- I consider Bucks to be semi-dull right out of the packaging. Moras are also semi-dull. I cringe when I hear someone say this or that knife was like a razor right out of the box. I assume many customs are razor sharp. I've never purchased a production knife that was sharp enough without additional honing. Marttiini comes close, but they need honing too.

Of the hundreds of knives that I have purchased, this has not been my experience. Most if not all of my Bucks have come as sharp or more sharp than any production, mid tech, or custom I've purchased....with the exception of just a couple...Big Chris and Ban Tang.

Mine from the factory typically shave the hair off my arm easily

That's interesting. I just have a 2013 Vanguard and a 2015 110. They came sharp enough for most people but not sharp enough. I want them to feel like you're feeling the edge of a razor blade. In addition, there were grind marks along the edge of the 110. I took them out and had a wicked edge in 5 minutes. Certainly nothing to complain about. Bucks have that excellent heat treatment and really get sharp.

It is interesting... actually. My 110 (my only new Buck so far) was shaving sharp out of the box. I did see the grind marks on the primary bevel that some of you have mentioned, which to me is indicative of needing to be hit with progressively finer stones and then stropped to remove, but otherwise it doesn't affect the edge as much as it does the bevel itself.

That being said, I'd like to see a more polished edge on it, and yes, it could be sharper, but for it's intended purpose, if used in the field, it is perfectly sharp. That's not to say I won't try to get it better! :D

I prefer a course edge myself.

I suspect Frisky has a higher standard for his edges than I do , which is cool.
