In a previous thread I had mentioned I was having a sheath made by a local leather worker. Here are the results. I asked the man to use his own creativity for a 1880 style mountain man sheath. He decided the Bowie looked better with a leather wrap on the handle.

OK I found the problems. Initially the pics were greater than 1kb, I resized them but didn't make them small enough. 485 KB. Hope you can see them when I get to 1 KB. Back after awhile.

Seems I can't get the pics down to 1KB. Stay tuned , maybe tomorrow....

Oh why do you punish us so without pics. ;)

I'm trying. I followed the instructions, browse find file, open it. upload it etc, but doesn't appear on the posting. I'll keep messin around . Even tried to edit to add pics.
Manage the atch says it was 'done'. I'm not doing something right.

100 kb max size. 800x600 max resolution. Or email them to me and I'll put them on Photobucket. Can't wait to see the pics!

Thanks Steve Email upload in progress.

Josh, I'll try that , too.

The older I get, the more I have to learn in this technology age. I'm getting farther behind every minute. :D

Imageshack is super easy to use. You just browse for the pictures on your hard drive, click a button to upload them, and it gives you a link with the image tags already in place so all you have to do is cut and paste it into your post.

Here they be. :)

Steve says he got them all (5) on the first email. Posting them directly.
The sheath is not hard leather. Elk leather with fur on the back side. I didn't set any specifics other than to use his own creativity.
I think when my caregiving duties are over, I will have the time to devote to and concentrate on a better sheath. I think it would be fun.
I'm a little concerned with the knife dropping way to the bottom and cutting or possibly the sides. No welds? More like a pocket sheath. Looks like something that may have been put together for short term use. Maybe the elk leather is tougher than I think. Also, may be why he put the leather wrapping around the handle to resist sliding down into the pocket.
I'm not really disappointed, but maybe my expectations were too high.

I like the whole package; you've made it look cared for and used. Daniel Boone himself would love what you've done.

Nice.:) If it had a rawhide liner it would be good forever. Elk is pretty tough but better used for Flute bags and such without a rawhide liner. Did he put a welt in the side of the sheath to keep the edge from cutting through?

Me likey...no wampum, much trade goods. Make electronic smoke signal my direction to make good talk...

No he didn't , Yvsa. That was one of my concerns. It is not a real tight fit. I mentioned this to him and he felt that the extra space would prevent it from cutting. Hmmmm.
Time will tell, just have to be careful when sliding it in.

In this case it's a good sheath for display but not safe enough for carry purposes. He did do a nice job on the aesthetics though. Would have been better in the old trade goods, ndn style sheath although it would've been a really, really, wide sucker.

Nice sheath.

I looked at the first pic for awhile without looking at the others and thought, "The person who did the stitching must've got caught in the sewing machine".

Yvsa, what could be done to make this sheath a good carry? You would add rawhide?

I'd like to know. Some day may try myself.
