Boy Scouts, former Boy Scouts or have kids that are Boy Scouts

I am the COR for my local unit and have seen many boys attain their Eagle! What a great program. I have never been much into the patches themselves, but more into what they represent--particularly the "Duty to God" aspect.

I was a Boy Scout. Didn't last long,no troop leaders.I would have liked to stayed in it. I was wanting to get my son in but you just do not hear that much about it around here anymore. Strange seeing as how we have a huge Boy Scout camp in the county.
 
I got to life scout then got out of it. Had too many other things going on. It was a blast though.
 
Scouter for 10 years as well as a Woodbadger, and proud father of an Eagle Scout.

Always said that the only reason I was in was for the food and the patches. :D
 
I started as a cub, got my Arrow of Light and eventually became an Eagle Scout in 1988. I went on to become a Cub Master, and Scout Master for two seperate troops. I was SM for 5 years. Did Woodbadge and all that jazz... (Beavers Rock!) I have two sons (soon to be three) in the cub scout/boy scout programs. Needless to say, I love the program!

After reading this thread, I went and checked out my box o' patches from back in the day. Lots of great memories!
 
First post so I will introduce myself first, I live in the Texas Panhandle and have all my life and have recently caught the Busse bug. Now own a SR Rucki, Hell Razor, CGNMFSH, and a TGLB on the way. Now, to the thread, started in Tiger cubs and went all the way to Eagle Scout which I was awarded in 2003. I still collect patches when I can get them from various friends around the nation who are willing to send them to me and when I can bribe a Jambo goer for a few. I have a lot of the Circle Ten council patches from East Texas because I think they are some of the best non special event patches I have seen. I still help my old local troop when I can and when I am back down in the old home town. If and when I have a son I hope he will be a Scout and that the values are still what they were when I went through.
 
I was a girl scout, but I always wished that there were an organization for girls that taught them some of the same fundamentals as boy scouts. There are some badges for out doors stuff, but its not as involved with survival type skills as boy scouts. Maybe there should be something like Tom-Boy Scouts or something for the girls that want to know how to do more rugged activities.

I have two daughters and Girl Scouts in our area is not even organized like Boy Scouts. I am constantly frustrated with the lack of the ability to work toward much of anything. There are not even ranks that you have to achieve. It is a pain in the rear. I have started teaching them Tom-boy scouts myself. The 11 year old started making fires and shot and dressed her first pheasant this year. Sorry for the thread hi-jack. Back to Boy Scouts.
 
Scouts, Order of the Arrow, leadership, and presently work about 2 blocks from BSA HQ. Be glad to take your collection to them to donate, if interested.

Hey Porkgunner! Long time no see brother!
I was a cub scout and a boy scout, unfortunately i threw all my stuff away during one of my many moves.
 
Many moons ago I was in the boy scouts for quite some time and later I tried to get my two sons involved but only one went for awhile and then eventually moved on to other things. I sure wish I had all my stuff from back then but lost, misplaced or given away to others that had kids that were either already in or just joining, etc.

I learned alot and really enjoyed the camp trips! :D

I never was a Scout myself, but my father-in-law was a Cubmaster, mother-in-law was a Den Leader, both brothers-in-law are Eagles. When my older son was 6 my wife said we're getting involved with the Cub Scout Pack. That was 11 years ago, little did I know that I would cross over to the Troop and end up as the Scoutmaster. My older son made Eagle in 2010, since I was asked to be Scoutmaster I've had three more Eagles in the Troop in 3 years. My younger son will make Life rank this month, then on to planning his Eagle project.

We've been growing too, 6 new Scouts in the fall, and 6 more crossing over from the Pack this month. Whew!
 
Made it to Life Scout, then troop disbanded. Unfortunately many troops are now gone and kids arent quite as interested these days. Scout outings were some of the best times of my life. "Be Prepared" has followed with me throughout my life and I am now passing the knowledge down to my twin boys. They arent scouts but they sure do love and appreciate the outdoors. I have my entire uniform collection cub scout through life scout, merit badge patches and merit badge belt slides, scarves, etc. Thanks for sharing this! :thumbup: :thumbup:
 
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread! :) Like a lot of others I was, and always will be affected by the times I had with the Boy Scouts. Nothing I would trade for the experience. :D Also, like a bunch of others I attained Life Scout and very close to Eagle, but life and parents happened and I didn't get the time or opportunity to get the goal, but I am very happy that I got the experience that I did. Priceless.
 
Boy Scouts is something that I never did. I have always heard great things about the program. Anything that gets kids off the couch gets a big :thumbup: from me.
 
I am the 50th Eagle Scout to come from Troop 2, Appleton, Wisconsin, um, 50 or so years ago. I'll be taking my badge when we go down to Texas next week where a grand-nephew will be getting his Eagle Scout badge.
