The first knife anyone has gotten me in my life without me bringing up the idea. My brother surprised me with this for Christmas. A solid little knife and WAY sharper than it looks.

Just thought I would share. Sorry for the blah pic.

I've heard great things about these knives. Made for people who work in the sea I think.

That is a good looking knife! Nice gift for sure. I had a Boye 3 or 4 years ago,
I wish I would have kept it.

I always wanted a Boye Basic since seeing them in AG's catalog many years ago. But at today's prices... wish I could have bought a hundred of them way back then.

I have a Boye Basic 3 on the way that I traded for, I hope it's all that I've read and heard about.
2 weeks ago I had never heard of Boye.
Best of luck with yours.

I have an original AG Russell catalog from when the Boye Basic was first released. If you'd like I can email a scan of the ad copy for your collection.

I have a small collection of Boye folders that include some early models w/ black micarta handles. Always wondered
if someone would recognize how unusual they are and how long they hold an edge...

Thanks for the info and additional pictures, everyone.

I'm not spending my days on the sea so the knife is overkill for me. I still carry it daily and find it to be a good carry. This all started a while back when I was looking for safety knives to go out on a deep see research trip with my brother. I ended up going with spyderco.

This year a friend, Derek, that work with my brother asked me about knives. He ended up with a Boye like mine. My brother saw it out on the boat and decided to get one for me. Anyhow, Derek has already had his to the Bahamas and back and tells me its performing well.

I can't give much real life feedback aside from a very solid feel and action. Super lightweight. I will have to put it on the scale later.

I look forward to any more info or experiences. Thanks.

Something that is always overlooked/misunderstood here, Rich....yes, it's great around water, but what people forget is that a pocket knife is routinely clipped in your pocket, close to your body, subject to heat, condensation and sweat. This is where the knife is at home.

Use it in the kitchen. The micro serrations that are caused by the dendritic macro crystals on the micro edge are killer on tomatoes. The thing can't rust (if it's Cobalt carbide). The edge holding is super. The Titanium marlinspike is handy for small prying jobs, and the shackle wrench is useful on a sail boat.

Here is one of the first knives I started my collection with. Found it used on craigslist for a steal.

Here are the Boye Basic knives as advertised in A.G. Russell 1994 Christmas Catalog of Knives.
