If you go to the Boye websight you can check out the various blades, handles, and marlinspike option. They have Wharncliffe and leaf blades, serrated and non-serrated, yellow, blue, and black FRN handles, and an optional Titanium spike with a built in shackle wrench. BDS stands for Boye Dendritic Steel which is a poured 440C stainless. BDC stands for Boye Dendritic Cobalt which is a poured Stellite (like Talonite). I like the yellow handle with a plain edge leaf blade in BDC with the optional marlinspike. The D ring bail can be removed if it gets in your way, and the hole that held the bail can then accept a lanyard. The pocket clip is Titanium.

I have a Boye Basic 3 on the way that I traded for, I hope it's all that I've read and heard about.
2 weeks ago I had never heard of Boye.
Best of luck with yours.

It will show up in the original plastic sleeve and have the paperwork as well. ;)

Edit: just saw the pics, enjoy it. As I mentioned, this one is an early one for him, prior to the BDC or BDS designations on the blade.

Last but not least, and not to put anyone to sleep, but I had a question.

Here is a 100x shot of the side of the cobalt blade. Not the high polished main blade grinds, but the flats of the blade above the main grind.

Next is a 400x of the edge bevel. This one shows more of the mirror polished edge I attempted to describe.

It is obvious to me that formations are present, but when I think of the actual edge it seems the steel sharpens like any common steel. Is the difference when you use the knife and abrasive materials work away and leave serration like formations at the edge? Time, use and another look through the microscope could answer this question for me if no one is sure.

Thanks.

I surprised at how popular this thread has become! I didn't know so many people on hear knew of or even owned these knives.

I definitely want to get my hands on this guy, seems extremely useful!

Thanks Mink,
I am very happy with mine since it looks like it has his actual signature etched into the knife, I prefer it over the newer etched designs on both sides of the knife.
And looking at my pictures above, The etching really reflects light.
