Brand/knife that ruined all others

Have you been happy with what you had, then suddenly a knife popped up that you just had to have and made all your others seem obsolete?

In my case, it was this one...

A Hinderer XM-18 "fatty" Spanto.

That led to adding four more Hinderers in 4 weeks, all different - XM-24 Spanto and Skinner, a XM-18 Skinner and a XM-18 Slicer that is on the way now.

What knife, or brand, ruined your feelings for all your then-current other knives, either temporarily or permanently?

The Manix 2 LW and the Benchmade 940 make it really difficult for me to carry anything else. They're just too good.

I'm sure like a lot of others here it was a CRK Small Sebenza 21 Insingo that pretty much did my collection in. After acquiring that knife I quickly sold off about a dozen other knives that just are never going to make it into my pocket again. The size of the Small 21 is just perfect for me so I rid my collection of my bigger stuff only keeping smaller higher quality edc knives.

My Hinderers certainly slowed me down, but I still can't resist something like my new BM, Crooked River.

Rat Worx MRX - I'm about >><< this close to selling my Paragon Warlock as it hasn't seen my pocket in months because of this knife.

Benchmade Crooked River..... I just recently started carrying 4 inch folders and I am unsure why I need any others after this Benchmade. I bet, my good ole Buck 110 is the reason why I enjoy it so much.

I don't know that I would say it ruined other knives for me, but the XM-18 certainly shifted my focus. I picked one up just to see what the fuss was about, and ended up liking it so much that I bought two more. A fatty spanto is next on my list, I just need to find one.

Their are so many good brands. I think just the first time you get your first "quality knife". For me that was something with a litte better QC and blade material, than the 9.99 Walmart special.

However I will say sometimes you can find a decent knife from china these days, this very cheap schrade I have is really nice with no blade play for what it is.

Thats the fun part of collecting we have people all over the map :)

I just got a Benchmade 531 as a birthday present and I am enjoying that but, the knife I carry the most is a US made Kershaw Zing with Sandvik steel.

I would have to say the Zing has ruined other knives for my because of it's overall design and ergonomics. I can't say that it is the best knife I own or my favorite but it gets more pocket time than any other blade I have.

The brand that has ruined things for me is Benchmade. Not crazy about most of their designs but I love the Axis lock. If they would just get together with CRK and produce an Axis lock Insingo.... Now that would be a nice knife.

I usually pick up those obsolete knives when others have found that knife that made all the others in the collection obsolete.

I'd probably say a green Delica 4. Before that it was random stuff that I didn't give all that much thought to. Well, I picked up a persistence first and saw the D4 as a nice upgrade and that is where a little bit more of the passion moved in.

I try to keep things at about the price range of Delica/Endura/Manix for right now but definitely have had my eye on some others like the GB2 and Military. I picked up a used Paramilitary 2 on the exchange but sold it, just wasn't quite for me. Normally don't like finger choils all that much but maybe that will change over time. Still think about the PM2 though. :) Same with the full sized grip, gave it a try but stock handle wasn't quite for me. Nice knife, though. The D4 has led into the Leek and Skyline, Manix 2 LW on its way after selling my first one, Cara Cara 2, blue D4 and orange E4 that came yesterday, purple D4 for my daughter earlier this year, checked out the Zancudo, and on we go! :D

Whoops, I just reread your first post! It was about knives that kind of ruined others for you, not really about knives that got you started down the path. :) Well, I'll leave my post about the green Delica 4 since that started things for me and somewhat ruined the budget blades and steels. They have their place of course but I usually feel like I'm missing out a bit when I'm carrying one.

Well, I used to have a rotation of RFP and LFP folders, but when this guy here got clipped in my left pocket, it did that to stay.

Even though my right pocket still sees a rotation of folders from Spyderco, Cold Steel, Ontario, etc., the Pac Salt hasn't left my left pocket literally any day for the last 2 years.

It also caused me the Spyderco fever, and started my passion/obsession with Spyderco, their knives, their forums, designs, and the company in general.

Now I hardly consider any other knife other than Spyderco as an EDC.

So: knife, Pacific Salt. Brand, Spyderco.

The Rukus hogs all my pocket time. I have other knives that I long to carry, but the Rukus is just too good. It's big and solid, and yet a great slicer.

Cold Steel. Very good lock, good steel, and handle without unnecessary liners. All of that for reasonable price. I often pick up CS instead my BM, Spyderco, Emerson to my pocket. Country of production isn't deal breaker for me since I'm not from USA.
