Brand loyalty?

Notch another vote for CRK. Curtiss knives also have a special place in my collection, that was my first "nice" knife and I've added a few more since. And even though very little about them makes sense for my day to day use, I have developed a bit of a Microtech addiction as of late :cool:

In terms of fixed blades, this forum has wrecked me for brand names, with what the custom makers are offering here, significantly nicer knives for a fraction of the brand price, I find it really hard to imagine ever buying anything production again.

I'm in the UK so have less available to me but I'd love to try Carothers and Busse but for what I have and can easily get here;

Leatherman
Victorinox
My Parang
Cold Steel (Triad lock folders)
Any Laurin 80crv2 blade blanks
And I find Lionsteel exceptionally consistent in value, performance and fnf. Their Sleipner performs exceptionally well.

I don't think my preferences equate to the level of what I would call brand loyalty, with knives. For instance, I have always been very brand loyal to Sony. Every piece of electronics that I've ever owned that could possibly be Sony, is. Every TV I've ever purchased, cameras, cell phones, house phones, alarm clocks, the computer I'm typing on now; hell, even a pager in the 90's 🤣. Likewise with watches, though I've owned and like many brands, I have a strong preference for Omega and identify with the brand as "my type of watch" more than the others.

With knives, I tend to be drawn to specific designs, though there are brands that I favor and consistently produce knives that I am drawn to. Looking at my collection, it seems to be the usual suspects: Spyderco, CRK, Benchmade, Victorinox, Case (despite their issues). I would also throw Hinderer and Les George in there, because I am drawn to pretty much every knife I see designed by them, but since I only own one of each at the moment I'm not sure if that counts. Plus there are a handful of other brands that I am fond of.

The brand that I own the most of, however, is Spyderco; mostly because they offer excellent cutting tools in a number of interesting steels.

That being said, if I could only own one knife, carry it for life, and have it be identified as "my knife" it would be the the simple Sebenza

Love the patina on that Native 5, what's the steel on that one? And nice watch, I have the orange bezel variant, one of my favorites for sure!!

Thanks! It's Rex45, started as the white exclusive, then rit dyed purple. That's one of my favorite patina jobs I've done so far. Done with a mustard/apple cider vinegar mix, in around 5 coats of that random pattern, rinsing it in between.

And yes, I love that first gen (2500) Planet Ocean. I actually had the orange (the next generation to the one pictured, the 8500) as well, only parting with it when I slimmed my collection down a few years back. I miss it probably more than any of the other watches I got rid of. I'd love to purchase the orange bezel and swap it out on this one from time to time, but unfortunately (though understandably) Omega has tightened down on supplying them individually.

That's really fantastic. I've got a k390 with a forced patina, nowhere near as pretty as yours though. That's what makes Spyderco so addictive though is all the different steel options to play with. And my Omega is definitely one of my favorites, that's the watch I was wearing when both my kids were born, and will go to my son :-) I got it for a steal as well, got it second hand, no box, no papers, no strap at a pretty screaming discount. It's a real strap monster and I love wearing it on different natos each week, so it worked out great!

I tend to follow knife designers more than brands, but in the case of Sal Glesser (Spyderco), Andrew Demko (older Cold Steel models), Jose Sabater (Joker), Joe Flowers (Condor), and Jesper Voxnaes (Giant Mouse and MKM) there's a lot of overlap.
