Is it normal for it to be so hard to push the unlocking bar to retract the blade in this knife? It is almost impossible and painful to apply enough pressure to close the knife and I am not a weak/out of shape guy...really.

Brand new?
Yes.
I leave a new one in my pocket for a bit to warm it up and then open the knife up about 3/4 of the way and dribble in some 0 weight engine oil with powdered moly mixed in into the pivot area and the back locking bar.
It makes a mess for a bit but after a while everything works much easier.

Well, it depends. If cleaning and lubricating it doesn't fix it, then either return it or send it off to Buck for repair.

After a clean and lube as suggested, try opening the knife partially so the spring is compressed and leave it that way overnight IN A SAFE LOCATION and check in the AM.
This has worked for me and friends of mine many times.

IF no joy, send it to Buck, they will make it right.

I bought 3 orange ones and the lock is very stiff! I have lubed it and loosened the lock bar pivot screw with no apparent change. I also have the previous 110 slim pro and it is almost as stiff.
I have multiple 486's, and 110 slims, lites and none are this difficult to unlock.
So not real pleased with that part, but I don't know how they would fix it unless they removed some material in the spring holder? or a weaker spring.

I amnot real happy about the stiff nature of the knives on opening and the difficulty to unlock to fold. I bought a couple thinking it would become my EDC now that I have been bitten by the "buck" but deployment is too slow should it be needed suddenly in a CQB situation, especially when compared to my Benchmade assisted and manual folders. Oh well, they will make nice stocking stuffers for friends.

I have taken a 110 and wrapped a thick cloth around the blade and oiled the pivots. Then worked the blade back and forth for quite some time, and maybe repeat this several times until I get it to where I can open and close a 110 with one hand. Not the plastic ones.... But working the blades might loosen them up.
As you rock the blade back and forth pot a thumb on the blade unlocl bar.. You should feel it working up and down. If not,,, ship it back to buck...
Maybe this will help...

Just another thing I do... I snitched some of moms sewing machine oil. I use it on my knives and guns... some of the best lub I have found... Babbling incoherently again...
Works for me...

I haven't run into this yet. sounds like the spring in the back is too stiff on a run of them..from the descriptions I'm reading. I don't see how ya can fix that easily.....

I'd send back to Buck......folder like this shouldn't be this hard to unlock.

The new 110TRX should not be anymore difficult to operate than a traditional 110. Please address the outside of the package to

This seems to be a common issue with the trx series that didn't happen(idt) with the riveted micarta ones... my wife broke hers in, in about 6 mos. Keep washing it with cold water and oiling it... it will get better pending any major factor flaw.

Thank you so much! I spoke to Moranda at Buck customer service last week. She was very helpful and concerned and instructed me to send them in for repair / replacement. They were sent on 2/23/23 and addressed attn: Moranda. USPS tracking says the package should be delivered today.
