I sent David all my e- mails from Brandon and he turned them over to the county Att. who says he has more than enough to proscute, and now David wants me to go up and testify. So with this I am pressing on with criminal charges. Civil court can only award you money owed but can't collect it for you unless he's getting a paycheck. You may get a sword back if he owes you that, but it doesn't look like anyone will get any money back.

Having read this resurrected thread, I am curious if Brandon Thell did any jail time. Sounds like he took a lot of folks for a lot of cash.
 
it took me 2 years to get my swords polished....all the while I was sweating because I had a few thousand dollars paid upfront plus the value of the swords. His work is good, but the edges weren't as sharp as I'd like. If I buy any more swords in future, I think I will work with the Japanese polishers directly. It's quite sad because BT was rather nice to work with in the beginning and communication was excellent...this was around 2004-2005.
 
The police are now involved. Some swords have been recovered.

I hope you get your stuff back and he pays one way or another for his dishonesty.

I can't imagine being involved in a situation like this- the amount of money, the time involved, the frustration.

However it ends up, no one is going to be happy.

I bought a stolen blade. The others involved are realizing the swords recovered were stolen and/or sold to multiple people. Most of the custom fittings seem to be missing. Brandon will probably end up declaring bankruptcy. He might face criminal charges, we'll see.

If only his crooked dealings could have been brought to light earlier...
 
I've been chasing him for 3 years. I spearheaded the ST Paul Police investigation that recovered some swords.

He has sold some of the swords/fittings, has lied about possession but finally gave up a few of the many swords he has, 8 of mine 5 nihonto and 3 Barretts as well a numerous fittings.

I believe they will charge him formally and prosecute him.

He is a lying thief and hopefully will spend some time in jail.

of the swords returned some have been claimed by 3-4 people as he resold the same items to multiple folks. On of the most reprehensible bums I've come across.

Ouch, glad you got your swords back or at least some of them. How many of yours did he have?
 
Wow, Thell seems to be one of the biggest thieves in the industry. Looking at my records, I see I had a very short conversation with him some years ago, and expressed an interest in having him work on a sword for me. I'm certainly glad that never came to pass! I sincerely hope that Thell gets his just desserts and that the folks he ripped off are able to get some recompense for their losses.

THIS, BTW, is why I am a supporter of BladeForums, where we can speak freely about our experiences and help each other resolve problems.
 
Hey not sure if anyone on here is still looking for Brandon Thell but I know where he lives. I think he is a complete piece of shit for reasons not related to sword polishing and he has never wronged me but he has wronged someone I care deeply about and I would enjoy seeing someone who actually has a legitimate legal issue with him take action against him and see that he gets what he deserves.
 
Not the only industry he has become a leech on. Tried his hand at painting houses and tried to sue his company under some crap HR complaint. They offered him money to leave and it almost all got garnished by back child support! I do believe he is suffering from paranoia. Possibly has at 4 children. Those poor kids. He has no prospects, tries to sue people to make money and is a drug addict now.
