Brass is back on the menu... GEC #44

The ebony does look good - but the micarta also looks very nice with the end cap.

I don’t pay much attention to the shields!
 
I see the northfields on GECs "whats happening" - anxiously looking forward to Mike's "come and get 'em" email!

Broke down and got an ebony and even though I can't stand the hot dog this was just too nice a knife to pass up. Excellent walk and talk, centered and nice 6-7 pull. Might end up picking up a Northfield after seeing that bolster. But hopefully there is a version with a different shield. PSX_20180720_171644~01.jpg
 
I really like the bullet shield, but it would have received bonus points for being modeled after a .44 mag or a .44 henry.

Why do some of you dislike the hotdog so much? I think it's perfect with ebony or most any other wood.

I was on and off again as to whether to get one of these 44's, when I started seeing the pics of the in hand knives, I quickly ordered a OD micarta model...so very glad I got it, I love the long skinny pen blade, and the clip sort of reminds me of my 85 two blade clip, but it is a little different. All in all I feel GEC hit a Grand Slam with this release, the action is perfect on my example, the blades are sharp, but the edges could use a little refinement to be better cutters, but they would do as is in a pinch. The pins are nicely set, with only minor sinkage on the two near the bolsters, and the color of the micarta is beautiful to my eye. This knife is built like a brick house, solid in feel, blades sit nicely in the wells, perfect size for in hand and pocket...the only thing I can fault is that they did too good a job on this particular knife, I'd love to find something to nit pick, but it eludes me to do so. As much as I wish the blade steel was a SS variety, they do what they do...and GEC seems to have been at the very top of their game when building these44,s...OK, maybe I found one nit...the springs sit a tiny bit high at half stop...if that is a thing that was necessary to give this knife it's awesome snap and incredible walk and talk, ill take it, they sure do make me mad by doing such a great job at what they do ;). Rock On GEC!

These look fantastic! They are certainly growing on me, I can’t decide between the ebony or micarta now. Ughhhhhh
 
Have the autumn leaf pre-ordered, but couldn’t resist the ebony. Had to order one today. I came to the conclusion that Tidioute and Northfield are a “must” for this pattern...at least for me. Pretty sure there won’t be any buyers remorse with this decision . ;)

Just bit the bullet ;) Couldn’t resist and now have a Autumn Gold on reserve along with the cocobolo I already had on order .
Until then I’m enjoying the heck out of my Ebony !!
