Brass is back on the menu... GEC #44

I also noticed no PPP on the pen blade of the Northfields, apparently.
My guess is that it was just one piece of flair too many :) With the long pull, Northfield stamp, Un-X-LD stamp, rat tail, bullet shield AND brass...already the deluxe version if you ask me.
The PPP would be pretty sweet on the stag version though.

I preordered the cocobolo and am now second guessing my choice. I’m not sure how I feel about the brass and imo the bullet shield is so large it looks like a caricature and takes away from the beauty of the wood.

It's probably just as garish on the bone version? Usually these types of things work themselves out once the knife is in hand. ;)

I like the way brass tarnishes, so I'm looking forward to that aspect of the knife. :)

The #44 is built like a tank and feels great in hand. :D

PPP only on the first runs (Tidioutes) and not on the Northfields (at least that was how it was on the 43s)

Personally, I'm drawn to the Northfield's like stink on a monkey (especially with satin blades). :D

Did you notice the Un-X-LD stamped on both sides of the lower bolster? Never seen that before? :D

Not exactly wild about the size of the shield, but everything else is as good as it gets!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The stamped bolster is one of my favorite design features of the Northgield 44's. I know it was used on the 77 Washington Jacks.

Those cocobolo Northfields are sporting some pretty sweet grain. A brass cartridge headstamp with a silver primer center and a "GEC 44" or "Buffalo Jack" legend would be a pretty amazing alternative shield, but I like the bullet shield just fine.
