Bravo-2 are out & pure meanness

Here is Mike Stewart's photo in hand posted elsewhere....

May be a mean combat knife, but I'll have to agree with a few others, not a chopper. That's a 7 in. blade? With an overall length of 12 something inches, that means the handle is 5 something. That blade looks to be a good bit more than 2 inches longer than the handle. Could just be the camera angle though.

It looks longer in the kgd photo, but looks right in the Cpl Punishment photo. kgd's is the camera angle.

Sorry I don't see photos in Cpl Punishments post. Just says Stock Photos: I'll go check it out at their sight.

This is a great looking knife. I wouldn't mind one, but will have to pass at the moment due to the Aussie $ being so dam weak.

I am not putting down the Bravo-2, I'm sure it has its place, but part of the charm of the Bravo-1 was in its being a little big knife, a short sturdy ergonomic knife that could do heavy work. Once you lose the compact convenience of the shorter blade, you might as well join the "kitchen sink" school of supply & equipment. :D

I know, I know. Two different missions: bushcraft, and survival/search & rescue.

Esav, you hit the nail on the head with this. I agree 100%. Also why did they change the thong set up? I much preferred the thru micarta thong hole.

BTW, what is a Gunny supposed to be?

Doc

Gunnery sergeant. Ya don't mess with them.

They changed the thong setup to get a metal pommel for striking/hammering/skull crushing.

just ordered one for my birthday, hopefully it'll make it up to here in good time. when i receive it i will post a review.

cheers guys,

JC

My tastes in fixed blade knives have been mostly running to 4-5 inch models, but I have to say I like the line on the new Bravo-2. I may have to give some serious thought to picking one up. :o

I totally get the big 9 inch bowie paired with a small companion knife that can do the fine stuff really well.

However there is something to be said for the mid sized knife that can do it all.

I have a very similar knife in the Rosarms SN Bayonet which has a
7 1/2 inch blade with a bit less belly than the B2. It is just barely big enough to chop but it can do it. It is also just able to do delicate work although it takes a bit more skill than a 4 inch blade would.

The SN Bayonet has a few things that make it work better for the detail work and small knife jobs that the B2 doesn't ,specifically a slight hollow grind and a pointier tip with less belly. However the B2 should be a better chopper.

Really what will make this knife is if it can still do the job of a smaller knife like your standard bushcrafter. A really sharp convex edge is going to certainly help.

Say what you will about bark River they sure have been putting out a lot of cool knives.
I like Scrapyard knives but they have not had a fraction of the knives come out as bark River.

This is definitly one knife where I am anxious to hold one or hear a review from someone who's opinion I trust like Horn Dog.
I am willing to bet he will get one!
