WOW Big Mike I like the looks of that pic. I have always like that way of carry. that is pretty cool how the sheath stays in your boot. I like that idea.
Thanks for posting that pic. ok does it every get snagged on anything when walking? and how tall are your boots? I know some will say it is a good way to loose your knife or even get hooked up on some brush but I still like the idea of it. It makes me think if the westerns and how some of the guys carred there knives that way.
Way to go Mike very cool.
Bryan, about 16” of my leg is in that boot.
I never had a problem carrying a knife that way in those boots.
The Knife is 12” overall, and about 8” of it rides in the boot.
When I do brush against something, or one of my dogs brush against me, the knife might get pushed forward or back, but I never had it try to come out of the sheath/boot.
And comfort is not an issue; as long as I have the proper tension on my laces, I don’t even feel it there.
It is a very convenient place to carry a knife; the knife is easily accessed even in my heavy winter gear (when belt knives are often hard to access).
I started carrying a knife this way many years ago when I was doing quite a bit of backbacking in snow. I found I preferred tall boots to wearing boots and gaiters, and with my pack belt interfering with my belt knife the boot top became the place. In the past I have used a sheath with a metal clip, but have since settled on the current system.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
PS - Here's another fire pit shot.
