Breeden Pathfinder

This is the first knife that made me notice Bryan Breedens Knives. The Pathfinder is a hefty but handy fixed blade designed for camp and kitchen use. Made from 01 steel and orange G-10 scales, a signature feature on all Breeden knives. This is a real user friendly workhorse.

Pathfinder Specs:

Steel-01

Blade Length-5" Full Flat Grind

Thickness-1/8" and 3/16"

Cutting Surface-4 7/8"

Overall-10"

RC-59-60

Pathfinder and PSKK II

Lets start with the handle. Nice big 5" handles easy to grip with gloves.

Compared to the PSKK II it is a full sized knife.

Forward Grip

Choking up with the thumb for push cuts.

You can use this grip for some short chops. It can deliver a nice chop. Best used with a lanyard.

This review will be focused on the ability to cut and what better place to test it than the kitchen?
First some Salmon. It cut through the fish and even skinned well, since someone around here didn't want the skin on theirs.

Jalapenos. Not for me!

Apples were up next.

Nice thin slices were easy with the Pathfinder.

You can imagine by now there is a nice patina happening.
So if the wife is a little strange about you buying a new knife tell her its a kitchen knife!

Awesome pics and a great review, I see Horndog now has some competition !!!

Those are some great pics as usual Bear, thanks for posting them. I'm excited to see his work really take off. *Rain dances...*

That looks awesome!

Here’s a sketch of a custom that me and Bryan are working out:

ProtoCustomKnives-1.jpg

It’ll be 200mm overall with a 90mm blade, 110mm handle, brown Micarta, hollow nickel silver pins and 7/64” thick 01 tool steel.

This design is getting really close to my perfect bush knife, I’ve even ordered two of them! If I can get my camera working I’ll try to get some (read a lot of) pics and a review (but no promises)! :D

I have a few other ideas that I'd like to work on with Bryan but they'll have to wait untill I can get more money, lol.

WOW I want one already great design!

very nice looking knife there. i saw bryan's posts about how he was getting into knife making. very cool looking.

sounds and looks like it works well too.

Hey all, one thing for me this knife is really just a nice in between,
not to light or to short and not to heavy and to long.

I noticed Steven Dick of Tacitacal Knives said that he takes french
bread along on some of his hikes and that a 4" blade is just to short
where as a little longer blade just makes cutting the bread easyer.
Steven mentioned that he might as well use his pocket knife instead of
a four incher. It seems that he prefers a 4.5" to 5.5" fixed blade. With my knife being right in the middle it just works for me.
Any body else take french bread or have thoughts on this?

I have some e-mails asking about a 4" model and will make one if
some one wants that. Just to let you know.

I live in a rural area and I carry my knife every day rain or shine.
Even the sherff and the chief of police no me and my wife by our first
names and know that we make part of our living by cutting trees.

Just thinking out loud take care all,

Bryan

French bread is good when camping. I also like to make a quick on the trail camp sandwich with some cheese and salame. You can always leave bread crumbs to find your way back.....or does that only work with hansel and gretle?
