Couldn't decide between Dowell and Menefee, but I really liked the looks of that Slimline so I went with the Dowell.
Those two boys are brothers of the blade. IMO if you enjoy Bret's work you will enjoy Rick's as well and vice versa (i know that's probably not spelled right but I'm too lazy to fix it right now)...and really if you like knives you'll enjoy eitherAnd REALLY if you like custom slipjoints you're going to end up with at least one of each...yes...I CAN see the future

I have knives by Brett & Rick. You can buy Customs that cost much more than either of these two makers charge.
But you cannot buy any knife that cuts better than a Dowell or a Menefee. They both have got design, grind, edge sharpening, and heat treatment 'dialed in' to Perfection every time.
Nobody makes a better cutter.

That has some good ivory on it. Wish i had some! Here's the last one I've done. This piece of ivory has been calling out for a couple of years to be used. Finally got around to it. Hope the new owner likes it as much as I do.
Everything else is for looks. Regarding looks Brett does a better job!I have knives by Brett & Rick. You can buy Customs that cost much more than either of these two makers charge.

Well it's raining again down here in southwest Florida but things are looking up! Bret contacted to me to let me know he finished up my knife and I'm anticipating its arrival. This is first time I've worked with a maker directly on a custom and I can't wait to get it in hand. This is EXACTLY how I wish all Mondays would start![]()
