Bret Dowell Knives

Here’s an LC that Bret was willing to try something different with (usually my MO when getting a custom knife made lol). I got the idea to add the jimping and rounded spine from looking at pictures of the Bose Lockback Hunter and I thought it would look great on the LC pattern as well.

Blade and spring are A2, everything else is stainless. Scales are Royal Walnut from a block I’ve had for a few years.

Bret has yet to use the houndstooth shield on the LC so we decided it would be good to throw on there as well. This knife is exactly what I was hoping it would become. It’s perfect. (The jimping in the last pic makes it look like it doesn’t match up to the spring but it’s just the angle at which the pic was taken, it’s certainly flush).

Very nice!

Thank you much! I’ll have to get it out soon for an updated “patina” picture, plus it’s been a little bit since I’ve carried it. Bret makes fine cutlery, his hollow grinds on the fixed blades he makes are really something to admire. This one is ATS34 I believe, bone linen micarta scales with natural canvas liners.

Beautiful knife.
The swayback is probably the absolute most beautiful attractive pattern that I don't actually like.
I sure love oogling them, but as a practical matter I don't really like the ergonomics of them.

One of these days I'll have to maybe get a swayback of some kind and try to force myself to like it, I could never afford a custom like this but it would be my dream swayback if I really liked the pattern in practice instead of just on paper.

This is the only swayback in my collection currently but it is a fantastic user and I like how it cuts.

I own three knives from Bret. The last one purchased some years ago. His knives were excellent then. I can only imagine how good they are today.
His work is extremely clean and precise.

This just in, we have a TWIN!!! A Lanny's Clip in this sweet vintage linen to go with my Zulu. Love a Lanny's Clip, favorite all time slip joint. Also love Dowell's XHP. This stuff is heat treated perfectly.

The Twins welcomed a third today to make this vintage linen set a trio of Bose shadow patterns.

I do have one more that I grabbed when the opportunity presented itself. The vintage canvas micarta is welcome in this ring.
