Bret Dowell Knives

Here’s an LC that Bret was willing to try something different with (usually my MO when getting a custom knife made lol). I got the idea to add the jimping and rounded spine from looking at pictures of the Bose Lockback Hunter and I thought it would look great on the LC pattern as well.

Blade and spring are A2, everything else is stainless. Scales are Royal Walnut from a block I’ve had for a few years.

Bret has yet to use the houndstooth shield on the LC so we decided it would be good to throw on there as well. This knife is exactly what I was hoping it would become. It’s perfect. (The jimping in the last pic makes it look like it doesn’t match up to the spring but it’s just the angle at which the pic was taken, it’s certainly flush).

That's a great looking knife. I like your ideas for changing it up. Killer grinds on that blade.

Thanks Mike. There were some questions that Bret contemplated in the beginning about whether or not the jimping and rounded spine would throw the look of the tang stamp off center since it had already been stamped, also how to accurately blend the swedge with the rounded spine without knocking the corners off and turning a cut swedge into a sort of drawn swedge. Well, he did it without any hiccups!

Bret does 'em right, beautiful knife!

Thanks Jeff. I’m looking forward to getting started on the patina. I originally asked for the A2 to be acid etched but I changed my mind. I’d like to let it naturally form on this one.

Picked this one up a while back on the exchange from Charles.

On Halloween, I pulled this sowbelly out of my mailbox, about 20 minutes before we got our first Trick or Treater. I hurried as I set out jack o lanterns, turned on lights and started some music, stopping every 30 seconds to coon-finger my new treasure...only to realize I'd become distracted and had to hurry again to get the house prepped for All Saints Eve. What a great knife and what a great memory.

I stopped by hoping you'd give me that instead of candy but no such luck. Hahahahaha 20191026_190233-768x890.jpg
