OK maybe that was a bit dramatic, but Brian requested that if I wanted to remain a member in good standing :p I should post pics of my work. Unfortunately I'm not a prolific maker who turns out lots of knives per year, I just don't have the time. This is my second completed (there have been others that didn't quite make it :o) knife which now rests in the hands of forumite Docdredd, through a Christmas Gift Exchange.
I've got a few designs that I'm pretty excited about at the moment, including a woods/wilderness knife ( I'm dying to make this one!) that will be first on the list when I get some more time.

Thanks for looking. Looking forward to any comments you might have! -Matt-

Specs: 4 inch blade of 1/8" O-1 RC 57
Handle: stabilized curly spalted mango wood
Pins are 7/32" O-1 drill rod

Nice, Matt! I love to have any knifemaker members show off their stuff here. I can't get enough of pics of cool blades!

This looks great! I do confess to coercing our friends who are knifemakers just a little bit...:D

Greaseman,

Nice knife:thumbup:. Don't believe that I've seen mango wood before.. looks nice.

Nice!! Pretty cool using drill rod for pins. Is it threaded or pinned?

That's great, very pleasing to the eye, it's incredible that it's just your second one!

I meant to comment on the plunge cuts. they are really nice and even. To me, that's the hardest part!!!

Nice job again,

You ain't kidding about the plunges, brother!:grumpy: They are always a bitch!

nice knife! Looks like it could do some serious cutting.

Love the handle!

Brett

Thanks Brett, it was quite aggressive when I sent it off. A nice toothy 220 grit edge.

Thanks Brian! I think your encouragement for everyone to participate puts some people at ease about stepping in and doing it.

Greaseman,

Thanks! I snagged that off of E-bay for a song! Mango wood is pretty soft as many fruit tree woods are. Wouldn't even touch it if it weren't stabilized somehow.

Scott thost are just straight pins. I haven't advanced to the tapping/threading just yet! ;)

little wider than I prefer, but I LOVE the handle. What's it made of?
It was a bit wide, but in proportion to the handle it seemed like the thing to do. :D Handle is stabilized spalted curly mango, I've only got enough left for maybe two more knives, then the search is on again!

That's great, very pleasing to the eye, it's incredible that it's just your second one!
Thanks Liam! There have been more, but never made it to completion, because they just weren't good enough. I was pretty proud of this one, even though there were many mistakes.

Brett, I used a file guide (got the idea from MS Bruce Bump) Kinda like cheating, but the results are worth it!
Sweet knife. Nice job!

Thanks Mitch! It means a lot coming from another maker!

A fine looking blade!
Thanks Kgd!

Very nice Knife GM..... well done. Love the simple blade shape, with the exotic scales.:thumbup:

Brian, you're doing a hell of a job getting members from other parts of the forum to post great stuff here.

Good on you Brian.

Tarmix, thanks, but I haven't been coaxing anyone! Grease-man/Matt already posted here! It's just the atmosphere you guys create here that brings people over. However, because we talked about how hard it is for new members to find W&S, I changed my sig so they could click on the link there if they are curious and come right over.

Grease-man/Matt, I'm outing you: Matt PMed me right away when I posted looking for a BF W&S patch, and kindly offered one of his to me. Not only am I extremely grateful, but I also spied that orange title and immediately demanded knife porn!

theres no such thing as cheating, its all part of the process, in the end, its the finished product that defines the process.

an old school Japanese sword polisher would have a fit if he saw me grinding on a tanto with my 2x72 grinder, does that make it cheating.....

using a file guide is just good sense, it takes a darn steady hand and LOTS of practice to get by w/out one

Awesome knife Greaseman..very clean blade for a self proclamed beginer.

My only regret is that I don't have more knife porn to offer! I'll have to work on that!

I agree Stephan! I figured if Bruce Bump still uses a file guide, why shouldn't I? It works well and file guides are cheap to buy and even cheaper to make! -Matt-
