Sheesh, this is getting weirder and weirder ... maybe we could move the meta discussion and the meta-meta discussion to another thread so as not to disturb people who want to talk about brick & mortar store experiences ... we could call the new thread, "Let's All Get Upset Over Nothing" ...

I am the guy who moved the thread. It seemed to me to be giving praise to a specific dealer. As such, I felt it belonged here. I apologize to all concerned if any offense was given. I am new to this and still trying to get the reflexes for doing it well.
David... a work in progress

David, I think the work is progressing quite well. Guys, lighten up! Have you ever heard of "the best of both worlds"?

When this was in General, 'everyone' could see it and respond, because 'everyone' goes to General. Even if some of the other forums might be more to the point ... like this one, for evaluating who we deal with. Right now, people come to GB&U to pat their friends on the back or gripe about someone cheating them. Good place for a little research. But it might get more attention if it branched out slightly.

Now David's moved this thread here, and everyone in GB&U can see it and respond -- but it's still in General, and anyone who reads it can switch over to here to follow it further. No harm, no foul.

One suggestion, I don't remember if I saw it in this case, but when a thread is moved, can we get a link to the new forum location to make the switch automatic?

What most of you have no way of knowing is that Country Knives is located right near a major tourist area. Thousands of people go to Intercourse, PA every weekend in the summer to gawk at the Amish and buy shoefly pie and overpriced junk from profiteers making a buck off of people who would much rather be left alone.

Although I don't include the very nice people who own Country Knives in that group, my guess is that the tourist trade is what keeps them in business. I can just picture the faces of the bored husbands and fathers who have been nagged into taking the family to Amish country as they see that there's actually something there to interest them. People on vacation are in "spend mode," so they're more likely to make impulse purchases at MSRP, rather than shop carefully for bargains.

This is probably why the store continues to exist, despite what must be enormous expenditures on stock and fixtures. The place is absolutely gorgeous, and I wouldn't want to be the employee who has to clean the glass on the dozens of display cases.

I wish them well, but not being the type of person to hang around talking knives with the staff, there's really no reason for me to pay the extra money. I just wander around for a while and look.

By the way, I would have bought some chris Reeve knives from them, because they would probably not be any more expensive than anywhere else, but they don't carry them. They said they were too high-end for their clientele, which seems odd to me, since they apparently do have clients who are willing to pay $200 for a Benchmade.
