Bring Back the DODO!

I really Just want to see the handle shape again. Lock... Ehhh... Blade shape.... Eh. Just give me the handle with any blade.

But I would really like to see some with a full flat ground, and a caged Ball lock like the P'kal.

:):):) If that happens I will order four!!!

The wait could be long.

I agree that the handle is one of the best, at least for the blade length that I've used.

The different blade shape idea might have legs. A warnecliffe would be less expensive to produce.

Still a "cult" knife, though.

I have a blue PE that I carry regularly and love. I too would get very excited over a sprint run and would buy at least two more especially if they were produced in more than one color. The original G-10 and S30V works for me, though KamSingh's wharncliffe blade looks appealing.

A sprint run of a new Dodo with a more conventional blade and the new style ball lock would be nice> I like the wharny idea also and feel the straight edge would be a plus for sales personally. From my end most of the only complaints I ever heard on the Dodo were broken points, and difficulty sharpening them.

But I'd certainly buy a couple PE of the old blade hook bill and all if it came available again, even in limited numbers. Never should have sold the ones I had. I kept a full serrated one and thats all I have left.

On the reasons for discontinuing. I think people want new products all the time. Its the way of the world and particularly sales. Innovations bring on new models, and to make room for new models you have to discontinue others. I think when it comes to which ones get bumped out of the line up it has to do with where the new models coming up will be classed, as well as looking at that class of knives now where the new one will fit in and then evaluating what sells the least of what is there now. Apparently the Manix and Mini Manix were not doing as well as other bigger models so they got the shaft to make room for up and coming ones.

We just have to hope the replacements are just as exciting.

I would like one with green g10or CF.Blade style flat ground in cpm d2 or zdp-189.:D:thumbup:;):thumbup:

I think the sprint run PE is a good idea. It should not be any problem to sell. Leave evething as is, just change color of handle. I love my Blue Dodo, but somebody told me, in case of sprint run, for certain reasons some minor changes has to be done.

WE NEED THE SPRINT RUN

after seeing this thread, i decided to see what all the commotion was about, since i happened to know a certain local knife shop that happened to have 1 blue SE dodo left. i always saw this knife in pictures on the internet, and it never really appealed to me. however, after i handled the blade i quickly realized why this knife is so popular. i absolutely love it, and if they ever made new ones i too would pick up two or three of them. the dodo is an awesome knife. i vote for another run.

btw, i was able to make off with it for only $90, i dont think the people at the store knew this was a hard to find knife.

also, i would not want a wharncliffe style dodo. the whole point of the knife is the s-curve blade with the sharp claw like tip. without the clawlike tip, it really wouldnt be the same inmop. the dodo is kinda like a mini ball lock civilian.

what do you guys think about adding steel liners to the dodo??

I have 2 user Blue PE Dodo models. I regret not stocking up on more of them. I use one here on my desk daily. They are great for packaging and other household chores. You just have to have one and put one to use to fully understand just how good of a blade design that they are.

I am perplexed as to why they got discontinued . Because everyone I know who has used one has nothing but good to say about them.

Yes indeed I'll take 2 out of a Sprint Run. I would also love it if they would bring back the Dodo with a larger/longer blade.

I think it is pretty obvious why they were discontinued. It was an afi knife all the way, and there aren't enough of us to keep a model in production. The average knife buyer won't shell out $80 for a utility knife with a two inch blade, especially an oddly-shaped two inch blade, even if it IS the ultimate utility knife. The average buyers are the ones who keep knives in the line-up, not the enthusiasts who only buy a couple thousand of a particular model each year.

I'd like to see a Dodo sprint run. My user is about used up and I hesitate to use my lone back-up unit as hard as I normally would, knowing that I'll have a hard time replacing it. But if the Dodo remains extinct, it will at least serve as a reminder that he who hesitates loses out ;)

Now excuse me while I go order a Stretch II :D
