I got my golok last night, limbed a few spruce boughs by headlamp but then my wife made me come in before I "limbed" one of my limbs.
As soon as I could get out there, I took my new friend out to break her in.
I started out small, using only the wrist motion to make a snap cut. The golok went through 1 in branches almost without resistance.

After a dozen branches I decided to move up a little to inch and a half. Keep in mind, I'm only using my wrist to make a snap cut at this point.

To easy!!! now lets see how she bites into a sapling. I'll swing with my arm but not to hard. As expected, nice and deep, almost to the spine.

Now lets see how many chops it takes to fell the small tree. It took three chops on each side, six chops total. As you can see, the last chop was almost 3 inches!!!

I chopped six more small trees and checked the sharpness. There was no real difference from when I started.
Now lets see how she battons. This is the first tap to get her started

And this is only one strike later!!! the convex grind acts like a splitting wedge.

This is my new favorite chopper/splitter/all around awesome camp tool.

Now on to the fox river. What can I say. It wittles great, battons wonderfully, and has amazing edge retention.

I battoned through ten sections of the tree and then checked the edge sharpness. I would say this is more than acceptable.

Last but NOT least, my micro tusk
It makes great fuzz sticks all day with nice thin curls.

I usually have a knife this size stashed in my PSK so I got curious about its limitations. I figured if the golok and fox split wood so well due to the convex grind then the micro should too. I mean what if I was in a situation where something happened to my gear and that was the only knife I had left. So, here goes nothing...

Damn!!! it battons great!!! Check out this pic, the convex grind splits the wood and the edge never even touches it.

The edge was completely untouched and still readily shaved hair afterwards.

I want a golok. I've been looking at them for over a year. It just never seems to work out.

great pics man.. i really like those Goloks.. one of these days i'll have to get one... they look like a lot of fun... those mikro tusks are way cool too.. i was checking those out the other day...

The micro tusk really surprised me. I've never tried to batton with such a small knife befor. The geometry was really key I think.

Great stuff my friend,

…there is not much you couldn’t do with that trio.

Watch out for those Bark Rivers, …they can be habit forming.

GREAT pics. You hit on one of the real "secrets" of BRKT knives--the geometry. I have become a convex snob. All my other knives just sit on the shelf.

Nice review. I knew that once you used the BRKT golok, you'd be impressed. I have a trunk full of choppers. The golok is the best one for the weight and size. It works better than a power hedge trimmer on hedges, too. Best all-around chopper I have ever seen.

Great review and pics

While its not a Micro Tusk, my Barkie Little Creek is of very similar length and thickness and has taken everything I've thrown at it with ease.

To me it seems that golok performs even better than I had thought one would. You have a great all purpose trio there.

i have the same setup except i carry a mikro canadian II instead of the tusk.

its one hell of a setup.

thanks for the pics dude.

Great review!! I really need to pick up another Fox River. It is one of the few knife trading regrets I have. The pictures were fantastic.

Thanks guys for all the comments.

jca21- I love the micro cannadian, its one of my favorite tiny knives. I have one piggybacked on a bravo-1, one on an aurora, and a third on a rogue bowie. Its a great knife. I used the micro to carve these george hooks out of bone, and it was still very sharp afterward.
