BRKT Golok Made Pointy

I love my BRKT Golok. It has become my favorite knife for yard work and would be a superb camp knife. It chops way out of proportion to its size and weight. I accidentally dropped it in my burn barrel once, and fished it out before it got too hot to mess up the heat treat, but the "barrel fired" micarta handles never looked quite the same. So I got a new one.

Having a new one for back up meant I could take a chance on a modification to my old one I had been considering for some time. How cool would a pointed BRKT Golok be?
Here is my state-of-the-art belt grinder. Finest in all China for $30.

I went through 3 80 grit belts just to get this far.

Coming along nicely. I had drawn a line with a sharpie as a guide to the new profile. I had to thin the blade toward the tip to make the point look right.

I think it came out pretty good.

Here it is between the golok and Bay De Noc. I call the new pointy golok (not a golok anymore) the Satilla Scimitar camp knife.

Sweet! I have looked at my Golok several times and wondered just this very thing! How do you like the Bay De Noc?? I have been wanting one. Gene

I like the BDN fine. I got mine on close-out from DLT. But it is not like a golok with a point. It is much lighter. It is basically a camp carver or even a fighter, very light in the hand. It can do light chopping and batonning, but it is not a heavy camp knife.

Very good looking conversion. If I had two Goloks I might be tempted, but I only have 1 so it will stay stock.
Do you have the weights of the stock Golok and your converted Satilla?
It would be interesting to see how much weight was dropped with the profile change.

Great job BTW!!

The reground golok lost an ounce and the balance point moved from about 1.5" out to the choil. It is not as effective a chopper as it was, but still better than the Bay De Noc. And it can stick things!

That looks great. I have to agree that the pointy just somehow looks more appealing even if you won't poke too many things with it. That sure seems like a lot of work though - 3 belts, wow....

I can think of a few skills that require a point over the blunt end..but I have been thinking that a chisel end would be best...you could really get some wood working done with a chisel. ( I need to look that up..I dont think I am spelling chisel right.) Great conversion..and I have to admit..that it is very tempting. I love modifying knives.

Having something pointy as well as chopping worthy must be nice. Great work.....I wonder what else you could do? :D

I think you might be onto something with the chisel idea. Kinda like a giant Razel. If you needed to trim up some notches, strip bark or even smooth a piece of wood, it would be like having a timber framer's slick on your hip.

Great Job! That is soooo Cool. You took an accident, and turned it into a opportunity. We could all learn from that!

Fantastic job Vic! I love how that one turned out. I am definitly getting more interested in the barkies recently especially the big ones like the Bay de noc and the little itty bitty ones like the micro Canadian and the PSK.
