BRKT Hiking and Camping Forum Knife Testing and Evalution Review

Great review and photos K_Estela. Will you please forward those two knives to me for an independant evaluation?

The release date on this knife is undetermined yet but it will be in the 2008 production for sure. I will be contacting Mike Stewart this week most likely to discuss the knife, it's performance and the future of this limited production run. If anyone wants to try them out, they will be at the CT Wilderness Gathering in a few weeks. Otherwise, you'll have to wait to get your hands on them.

Great review - thanks! I feel my Gameskeeper is a better bushcraft knife than either - mainly due to safety. It has a finger guard and choil, so my forefinger slipping up to the blade would likely never happen. That was the reason for nixing the LE North Star I bought as a woods-carry. I also got a Fox River, which I still feel is a step up from #2 of your review - and my middle-range bushcraft-lite carry knife. Tagging along, probably where that first variant might be an appropriate choice, is my Huntsman. Admittedly, it's blade length is less at 3.1" - but at .187", it is more stout than either of the prototypes. Also, it's small finger guard overshadows it's shortish handle, comfort and safety wise. It is an ideal day-hike or woods-walker knife - stowed in a KSF leather pocket sheath along with a small flashlight - in my front pocket.

The long of it is they are no doubt nice knives - no doubt well made. The short - they don't fill a void for me.

Thanks and very well done. If either of these become readily available, they could very well be my first tool purchase from their product line. Thanks for sharing.
