I admit to never having done it (making micarta, not sex--I won't admit that) but on YT, there's a guy showing how with denim etc., cost of the "glue" is the only expense but I thin $8 makes a lot of them. I'm not complaining about the grivory handles, but (the custom ones now)$55 is too much when their neighbor up in Franklinville-Olean sells them for $20. Of course, those are mass produced since they come with every Ranger ready knife. I realize that except for prohibited/controlled items we have a supply and demand economy here in USA, and there is a lot of demand for Becker's (except the bk5 apparently) and their accessories so, for now it's grivory or hylon for meGuys, by all means make your own micarta scales, lord knows I've made a bunch, but understand ahead of time that $40 is a stone bargain for the Kabar ones. If you figure in tooling, supplies and labor (time) your easily gonna be over $100 for your set. Oh and the first few you make probably won't look as nice as the kaBar ones. Making Handles is a lot like sex, you can't expect top quality the first few times.
If You do proceed, at least make something cool & unavailable commercially. Like burlap micarta.
