Broke down and got a BK 9er.

Guys, by all means make your own micarta scales, lord knows I've made a bunch, but understand ahead of time that $40 is a stone bargain for the Kabar ones. If you figure in tooling, supplies and labor (time) your easily gonna be over $100 for your set. Oh and the first few you make probably won't look as nice as the kaBar ones. Making Handles is a lot like sex, you can't expect top quality the first few times.
If You do proceed, at least make something cool & unavailable commercially. Like burlap micarta.
I admit to never having done it (making micarta, not sex--I won't admit that) but on YT, there's a guy showing how with denim etc., cost of the "glue" is the only expense but I thin $8 makes a lot of them. I'm not complaining about the grivory handles, but (the custom ones now)$55 is too much when their neighbor up in Franklinville-Olean sells them for $20. Of course, those are mass produced since they come with every Ranger ready knife. I realize that except for prohibited/controlled items we have a supply and demand economy here in USA, and there is a lot of demand for Becker's (except the bk5 apparently) and their accessories so, for now it's grivory or hylon for me

Oh, it's on there. $21.99 for the cut slab and $3.00 shipping. So $25 before the work starts. Now that's the fancy burlap I'm thinking about.
I'll need 2 or at least to get the tooling right, but that's on me!

I'm sure they aren't a sponsor, but a certain evil bayer here in the US sells a 7-8oz. Leather sheathWhich fits the bk9 perfect after 5minutes with a scissor and 1 Chicago screw for $20 +$3 shipping. Made in US and budget friendly. That's how cheap I mean

The Becker micarta is 3D contoured. The others you mention are flat slabs with chamfered edges. From a manufacturing standpoint that is not insignificant.

If you can, send me an email. I have a half ish done project you may wish to finish.

I would love to, Must I have paid membership to do so? If so cash is tight (per wifey cannot spend $10 til the mortgage is made) til around the 5th of the month.

I was gonna give you a partially completed set of micarta scales for the big Beckers that I started on years back. I've probably got two hours into these. Which means there's probably 7ish hours left to go depending on your methods. Lemme know if you want and daddy will find a way.

I most definitely want!

7 for most people will be at least 10 for me, as I weigh every possible solution many times before I proceed! Btw I checked my PayPal and its at$15, got partially paid by someone

Hard to do when one can't post pictures some how. Got two BK 2/22, BK 4 and a BK 9 with no image transmissionary capability.
I feel like an idiot because I can't even take pictures with my iPad mini (first gen) because I apparently forgot to give some app permission years ago during setup!

OK...who made me order another one!

EDIT:

My new already went out with out me. So figured always have one on hand for myself when needed.

OK Car died. Glad I got the extra BK9er when I did. No more knives for a while. Now each BK 2 gets a BK 9 to back up.

Rogues,
You will love it!
My son and I went to visit my cousin a while back and he had some large oak branchs that had fallen down, so I drag out the 4 & 9. When we started they liked the 4 because it looked cool, by the time we finished...they preferred the 9! The King can't be denied, long live the King!!

The 9 is a helluva knife!

I'm ashamed to say I have no BK9 yet. Nice blade!
I would like to ask the people here who I'm sure know more than me, do BK9's really break or snap from chopping/batoning or is that just some isolated cases that have been plastered all over the internet?

:Edit to add that is seems some of those broken BK9's were when someone was trying to split a log when they should have used an 8lb maul.:

Extremely rare. Like win the powerball rare. It happened on a couple of the old roll stamped 9s. Hence they are no longer roll stamped. The 9 is the KING of blades for a reason and its not because it breaks.
