Broke down and got a BK 9er.

I would say that "plastered all over the internet" is a hyperbole. It is the internet so if that is what you are looking for you will find it but in my opinion the internet is filled with praise for the 9 with the exception of a couple isolated reports of it breaking. The 9 is a knife that most people abuse and any knife can break. The fact that only a couple have broken says something.

I got the 9 for a multi-tool swiss army knife big blade that can do most thing small knives can do but be able to do hard big knife stuff if needed. Since my first one went out in to the wilderhood with some one who needed to borrow it, so I would always have one ready I ordered a second...according to UPS it arrived yesterday and I saw no package. So it was probably stolen...

I use other blades for super hard use knives when needed.

EDIT: Amazon is looking in to it.

I'm ashamed to say I have no BK9 yet. Nice blade!
I would like to ask the people here who I'm sure know more than me, do BK9's really break or snap from chopping/batoning or is that just some isolated cases that have been plastered all over the internet?

:Edit to add that is seems some of those broken BK9's were when someone was trying to split a log when they should have used an 8lb maul.:
I personally have seen two Camillus BK-9's broken at BeckerWest, during the chopping contest. For sure one of those broke at the stamp and I don't remember how jonny1280's broke. I feel like as long as you're not batoning through a big knot and when chopping you keep the blade orientated 90 ish degree's to what your trying to chop, you"ll be just fine. As I remember it, the one Niner that broke was in use by a rookie chopper, who was getting tired and he laid the blade into the wood at a 45 degree ish or less angle and the blade just sorta snapped and keep in mind this very blade had won the chopping contest on two or three other occasions by it's actual owner. The guy who broke it was just borrowing it for the contest.

Excellent first hand account FAL'ER. Jonny1280 could add his memory to the account. And then it should be made a sticky.

Let someone borrow my bk9? Never! Unless both my arms are trapped or broken, if they need a knife they can borrow one of my OKC blades in 5160

Naw its pretty normal stuff with us Beckerheads. Blades are given, loaned, passed around, traded, traded back, sold back, modified and given back ect....Just the way we are. I Love being a Beckerhead were all Brothers and a few Sisters.

Amazon is sending me a knife BK9! I'm getting a second for one to I can keep near by!

My current BK 9 was loaned out to a friend who went on an extended wilderhood trip. A good multi tool for when he looses the smaller tools, breaks the saw blade and break the hatchet handle (I tell him get a SOLID STEEL (Non Tubular) shaft!). He usually does one or two of those things, so the BK 9 will cover most of the duties to varying degrees. Hence the reason why I got the BK 9. Its thumping and whumping hilt blade is the best option for back up tool and a primary knife.

Got new replacement BK 9 and the other came back! Odd he didn't loose any thing but liked BK9 having it round as it did a lot of things.

Now...to get micarta scales for the new one also....

OK...some how I got 3 BK 9s... some one said "Oh you can return one!" another said "YOU CAN SELL ONE!" to which I said "No!" keeping them for if needed. One can be the loaner and unless a worthy niece or nephew or cousin kid needs a good knife, a gift might be in order. To good of a multi-tool that can do BOTH big knife things and little knife things to get rid of it. And really its light enough and very multi use capable that makes it a positive weight carry knife. A floppy fish fillet knife kit I view as not positive weight carried for example.

I think I ordered a replacement for the replacement before I started the track down...

You have me convinced, that you do indeed like the BK9. A good old fashioned triple down.

I've been showing mine to (even learning to let them chop with it--it really takes a beating)to some hatchet-people and I can see them pause and think about their gear choices!

...and I don't remember how jonny1280's broke...

Brute strength.
When I was but a baby the Gods granted me with this special gift. It's a blessing and a curse.
However, I've yet to destroy a 1095 CroVan laser etched KaBar...

To be honest, I probably came down too flat with it during the competition. More of the flat of the knife probably hit first instead of the edge. Swinging as hard and as fast as I could...That's a recipe for disaster...
Keep in mind though, I was on a record setting pace when it broke...
I still tear up a bit when thinking about it.

Like the new Avatar Jonny:thumbsup:

A good job overlap multitool is always handy.
