Broke my Kershaw 2420... need a replacement / suggestions

See if you can get them to give a kershaw ram 1910. I have one it is a sweet knife you would love it.

The above suggestion is a good one, the RAM is a really nice blade.

There is a good reason that Kershaw has such a good rep on here, as you now have first hand knowledge! There are a lot of great Kershaws out there, hit the Kershaw sub forum up here and do some reading.

Heck, you want a big tough folder and are willing to go up to $300 then I say go for a zero tolerance ZT 0300.

As for legality, most of the cops I know don't care about blade length.
I carry a 4in spyderco s90v military outside of school and I'm 16, never have ever been asked about my knife while talking to cops.

Wow. Just got off the phone with Morgan from Kershaw warranty services.

She was so amazingly helpful. I told her the situation, and she basically said: 'Send it in, write a note telling us what happened and which knife you'd like somewhere in the same price range up to around $80'.

She suggested the Whirlwind and the 3120, and we briefly talked about the Leek and a couple other knives on there.

So I guess I have to get on there and find a nice new Kershaw to replace my old steel.

Man, she was so freakin friendly. Kershaw is awesome.

NOW we talking GOOD karma!!:D:D

Kershaw is one of the best around, and you have several awesome choices there!:thumbup::thumbup:

Glad you called and got it handled. Looks like their warranty is still the best. ;)
Now you gotta pick out something.

I really like the look of that zt 0330 with the camo pattern on the handle. Doesn't seem like kershaw has it on their main site.

Just wondering about a few things.

What do you guys think about tanto vs plain blade vs semi-serrated at the bottom?

And how does the anodized aluminum match up compared to G10/titanium? Or polymide?

Also whats going to last me longer and hold an edge better: S30V or a carbon fiber blade?

With all these things in mind, is the zt 0300 my best choice out of whats been posted here.

So far im between the Rukus, ZT 0300, ZT 0121, Whirlwind, Cyclone, and I am still looking at many others. What makes the ZT0300 so much more expensive than the rest?

I am sure most of the information is available here on the site, and I am actively researching many of these questions. Just figured you guys might be able to give me a quick idea on some of these things and help me pick the right blade for my pocket.

Thanks all.

if you can find better customer service than Kershaws, let me in on it.. I havn't.

I got a slightly warped blade on an Outcast, on ebay, and called them.. they sent a replacement immediately, overnight.. and didn't wait for the warped one to get to them.

I'm sold. Kershaw gets my recommendation from now on.

I'm now carrying a CRKT M16 (titanium, AUS 8) and love it, but I'm the sort of guy who touches up his knives daily whether they need it or not, supersteels don't do much for me.. and I have more tied up in whetstones than I do in knives, so it ain't likely to change any.

My 'church' knife is a Dozier Thorn, but I have several M16s, and they are a serious bang/buck winner.. as is the Byrd 'Wings' (GOOD value, semi-traditional EDC pocket knife).

fwiw 300$ knives lose every bit as fast as 30$ ones, and steal even faster.. ymmv but I've broken maybe 2 knives in 40 years and 'lost' a dozen..

I bet the composite blade Junkyard Dog would suit your needs well and would fall right in the allotted price range.

I'm not a fan of tanto tips at all, and prefer a plain edge blade. This comes up quite a bit here on the forums and I think you'll find that that is the majority opinion.

Do you mean carbon steel blade? I haven't heard of a knife with a carbon fiber blade, certainly none of the one mentioned in this thread. S30V is an awesome steel with excellent edge retention.

What makes the ZT0300 so much more expensive than the rest?

The S30V blade and Titanium handle are certainly the biggest factor in the price difference.

You could check out the ZT0200 which is very similar but not assisted opening, because of this it costs quite a bit less.

The handle on the junkyard dog II composite seems like its too small for the blade. I like the knife, I just want to make sure that if i applied a lot of downward force that the knife wouldnt break at the bottom of the blade near the handle.

Also, it seems like kershaw's website doesn't offer the composite. If i warranty my broken one, I wonder if they have one hidden in the warehouse somewhere. Ill give them a call tomorrow about it.

For some reason it is listed as "JYD II Composite" and not "Junkyard Dog" so it is below the others.

Whatever concerns you have about its durability will be completely erased once it is in your hand, I assure you.

I think the Rukus would be the one I'd go with. The Kershaw Storm is a very nice knife, but the thing is a bit heavy and the shape of the blade a bit wavy. I like larger knives and myself prefer the Cold Steel Voyager line. Spyderco makes a good line of knives, too. Depending on how much you want to spend, take a good look at Benchmade. The CRKTs are okay, depending on what kind you get (I'm fond of the M21-04) and also like the Spyderco Byrd line (particularly the Cara Cara, which can be had for about $27 in the G10 grip version, and even less in the fiberglass (FRN) grip version). The good news is that it's hard to go wrong; there are so many great knives out there.

The CRKT 21-04 is tough and beautiful, and opens very quickly.

The Byrd Cara Cara is comfortable, reasonably priced and built
like a brick outhouse.

The Cold Steel Voyager is one of my favorites.

The Cold Steel Gunsite is my EDC. It comes in 4-/5-inch blades.

The Benchmade is one of the absolute best, but pass on the
serrated versions. Too bumpy.

Yes, thats how the steels go that i mentioned. I'm not crazy about walmart for knives. I say if you really want a good knife, unless someone else knows a better store, travel down here. It's a full on outdoors store. Theres cabelas in east hartford, cubetas in middlefield, new england outfitters in wallingford but idr if they have knives or not. Good luck! I get all my archery stuff at new england outfitters. Been buying there for years if you do archery!

This is probably a little off topic, but, cabelas in East Hartford? I haven't seen it. Where is it? I'm not doubting your truthfulness, i actually do want to know, so i can go to it lol

Ok, I cant take it anymore.

I am ordering 3 knives to compensate for my dead Kershaw.
One for the house, one for the car, and one for my edc. I need a new knife to go with my new lighter.

All of these beauties will be in my hands within the next week hopefully.
