Broken backspring Queen

I know i will end up carrying an axe.

Dan.
Nope. Handles break. You'll end up with a sharp rock.

And just so everyone will know, the spring on my Arctiforge Laguiole broke a month or so ago, while it was sitting closed on my desk.

Handles break when misused or badly designed (run out and orientation of the grain). I've never had any spring breakage and not much of axe handles problems either.
I hope to never have to experience rock sharpening!
Here is an handle i whittled 15 years ago. Some damages but still strong.

As this inevitability nears its end, those of us who still have good, solid Queens may hit a bonanza:
FOR SALE: 1 of only 7 extant Queen knives . . . . $3,000 opening bid! ;)
Only to have a spring break during shipping to the new owner, you have to refund the money and be accused of fraud?
(or the "buyer" falsely files a claim alledging a spring was broken when received, even if it isn't.)

BTW: The big auction site and Pay Pal will side with the buyer, no matter what evidence you have showing the knife was as described/not broken when you shipped it.
They will take funds from your Pay Pal account to refund the money to the buyer, and will close your accounts at the Auction Site, and at Pay Pal.
Their policy is: "Buyers can do no wrong; Sellers can do no right."

That's what they did to me when I sold a new "impossible to find" (at the time) Wii in the factory sealed box, and the "buyer" (note quotes) filed a fraudulent claim that he received a used and incomplete Wii in an opened box.🤬

Sometimes, I'm just plain dumb and stupid - feel free to chime in. I had forgotten all about this thread when I ordered a Schatt & Morgan Stag Railsplitter last Sunday for a couple of C-notes. It's out for delivery as I type this. Not expecting anything to be amiss but I've got that creepy feeling in the back of my neck right now.

I’ve never had this problem. I have Bucks that are half a century old and work like new. The Queen lifetime warranty doesn’t mean much since they’re not in business any more. This sort of thing is why I don’t like spending more than $75 on a knife.

If you sell something, you are responsible for it until it gets into the hands of the buyer. Once they receive it and accept it, then it’s their responsibility. You can charge someone for the cost of shipping, but that is reimbursing you for your expense. It isn’t accepting responsibility for the shipment. The seller needs to deliver the product in the condition it was described as.

Calm down ED !!! ... I wouldn't worry about it. It's just hair standing up. There may be a medical name for it, but I don't think it's Hackles. That usually involves the shoulders and spine too I think.

Well, it got here about an hour and a half ago and I've managed to take pictures. It arrived in pristine condition and has passed the "take a picture with three blades open - two blades on the same spring test". I'll pocket it and carry it in rotation and we'll just have to see what happens over time.

Very nice stag. I like the label that looks like money. They must have had a psychologist in the marketing department!

Did you get in touch with them? Normally they'll fix it no problem.

No, I didn't. One, I'm not the original owner, two I wouldn't even know who made it if they hadn't comented on a picture I posted years ago, and three, I'm pretty sure international shipping would cost more than I have in the knife. I just wanted to say the problem is not unique to Queen.

Nice knife Ed. I have the Coke Bottle from the same 2005 Schatt & Morgan run.

Personally I am a big fan of Queen made knives and have owned many of them for decades (Queens, Winchesters and Schatts) and have yet to get a broken spring. However, I do limit myself to Queen knives made before 2006 or so.
