Broken ESEE 6?

Well i never got pics of it (sorry?) but yeah i was poking it in some wood (moderatly deep stab, about a quarter inch stab, and twisted it to the side trying to pop up a chunk of wood; we all do it with our knives sometimes) and the tip snapped off. honestly i did not expect this...i do the same thing with my ontario and ka bar all the time. i just asumed that theblade was over tempered...now im scared to use my new one that was sent to me from the company (great customer service!!!) i love the company! hands down way better that any other that i have dealt with in my life. anyways i cant get the image or feeling out of my head, so im now too timid to go poking or proding around with it...:( i sure hope it was just "the knife" and not every single one! but thanks so much ESEE, your a great company for your exelent service!!!

Use it and DON'T be scared!!!!
If it breaks again you'll get another.
I can do this stab with my RC 3 with NO worries so the 6 will take it.
I think it was a fluke the first time.

Probably just a faulty HT on that one knife. Too many days in a year for the folks at Rowen not to have a bad one occasionally. Don't be timid with your new one. The odds of it happening again are astronomically small.

You guys are the same ones that wanted to see the car wreck movie again and again in Drivers Ed. in high school:)

Incidentally, was I the only one mad as hell when "Debbie Does Dallas" wasn't shown in Sex Ed ? And we got some old lady with charts talking about condoms and smegma?

yup.
you're the only one.
the original wasn't very good - some of the sequels, however...

There were some pretty gruesome wreck scenes in the films I watched. Course they can't show that stuff now because it might offend the sensitive nature of children and they might have bad dreams but it did make me think about the consequences of driving like an idiot.:)

Believe it or not, I actually did get to watch all of the gory car crash videos at my high school, and that was only like 3 years ago. I remember this one poor lady's head looked like several pounds of ground chuck wearing a wig. It certainly didn't make the school lunches seem any more appetizing.

We also were told we were required to take the ASVAB our Junior year of high school, which I thought was pretty odd. I did it anyway though and got a 91, and I was told that was a decent score.

On topic though, god forbid any of my ESEE knives ever break! However, I know that if one ever does, I am in good hands.

Glad you got taken care of.

Don't be afeared to use the tar out of that bugger, I beat the tar outta mine with little worry.

Only in one of our threads can there be "lady's head looked like ground chuck", "broken knife tip", and "Debbie Does Dallas" all in the same thread:)

you know now that i think about it...the wood was very dense. very heavy tight grain, and i guess if the wood is dense enough not to give, then the knife will. i ques thats my rationalization. its all good. just avoid stabbing your knife into tougher things than steel tensile strength. i now know for a fact that even the toughest blades will snap when prying against an object that has more resistance. and luckily i learned the not so hard way with their exelent warranty! Mr. Perrin was more than efficient! :)

unlike my lesson that i learned with swords...the movies are crap man, blade on blade contact (full force, NOT PARRYING, BUT REAL COMBAT) even when used as they were designed would quickly if not instantly snap snap at least the weaker blade due to the massive structural trauma received on a blow. i know i had two authentic high carbon steel medevil era swords that were designed for this and they both broke within like a few fights....oh yeah that was a great feeling!

i guess thats why the japanese fencing avoided heavy blade on blade contact unless nessesary. and after all samurai would go into battle with like ten spears and a bow, and an arsenal of weapons before they would resort to drawing their swords.

historicaly if you think about it that would make sense why all of the kingly swords through out history have survived, becuase if they were used, they were ten times the quality of the average sword haha..........anyways sory to get off topic! but its my post!!! :)

Congrats on getting your knofe replaced. Like others have said, it was probably just a bad heat treatment that weakened the blade. It happens to the best of them. Dont be afraid to go out there and abuse the piss out of it.

btw-Samurai usually carried either a single Yari(spear) or a bow as their main weapons, and the katana was their backup weapon. I cant recall ever hearing of a warrior carrying multiple Yari or a Yari/bow combination. Usually the Yari were for foot soldiers while bows were used from horseback while in constant motion.

When you say you stuck the tip in some "wood" and it broke, did you actually mean to say "dynamite"?

Pics or it didn't happen...

Bahahahaha! yeah no kidding lol. and i read the book of five rings where Musashi specificaly recommended carrying an arsenal of weapons. but yeah its the basic idea of "i dont want to use this" if anything it would be a symbol of wealth.

so emulate Miyamoto Musashi - use your 6 to carve a boat oar and crush your enemies with that!
then sell their weapons on the exchange to fund the rest of your collection.
:D

I bet nothing happened to the OP's 6. No one breaks a tip off by poking at wood. PRYING breaks tips off. no question.

haha good idea 1066VIK! i will most definatly emulate his behavior, although im pretty sure he was psychotic!
