Broken knives

I broke my fathers puma sea hunter chopping into a branch. It was visibly faulty and they replaced it but with this, the wrong model (one model number out). Years later he gave it to me as he had no use for it, funnily enough he would have had no use for the other either.

Took a chip the size of a quarter out of the edge of a C.S. kukri machete with just normal chopping on hardwood. C. S. said it was misuse. Wouldnt do anything for me. It was the last time I bought C.S.--KV

fubar-ed ka-bar in the middle. It should have bent. I was being an ass.

broke a smith and wesson blade opening a jug of foam. Tip broke off, then kept going and just snapped it off a 1/2 inch at a time. I think it broke 3 times before I just tossed it into the fire. finally used a spanner.

I've broken countless spyderco's and cheaper blades throwing them. Usually throwing them at stuff. My buddies dorm had a huge wooden dresser. We'd drink beer, watch simpsons, and throw knives into it. Real class acts.

I break knives from time to time. All my knives are users. I don't own anything that doesn't get EDC'd or taken camping.

I fried a leatherman on a car battery. Leatherman replaced it with a new one.

I have had a few cheap knives break when I was abusing them.

I never had any knife break while using it as intended (i.e., cutting).

I de-tipped a Delica a few years ago - by prying (of course). Guess I wanted an excuse to get a new knife. Never broke anything else.

I broke a CS Recon Tanto (Carbon V) trying to baton a birch log. Snapped right at the ricasso/tang junction.

I've also broke quite a few knives using them to pry things. Or open bottles. Or open cans. Or throwing them.

However, these are the ones that I broke that don't consider 'abuse'.

Broke my first boy scout knife whittling one of those wood race cars. Tip snapped while "drilling". I was being careful, but <shrug>. My dad wouldn't let me replace it. I saved up and got a Buck. Broke the Buck scraping paint off an old chair for a wood shop project. (ok, I know that a knife isn't a paint scraper...still...for those nooks and cranies it was a good tool for the job and I wasn't allowed to play with paint thinner anymore )

I broke a mystery machete hacking blackberry bushes. Don't know what happened, I swung, and pulled back half a machete.

I broke the tip off a throwing knife by throwing it. Found the tip stuck in the tree.

Broke about 1/2" of tip off a kabar learning how to baton and hit at a bad angle. I was pretty pissed. My technique is much better now, but if I was cold and tired and in a survival situation, I could imagine doing the same thing again and again.

The reason Busse stays in business is because of people like me. :D I Have yet to break one of them, and it's not for lack of trying.

Wow, you guys need to learn how to play nice.

In my 13 years of owning and using knives, I can honestly say, I have never broken one. Even my thin bladed folders and Mora's have made it out alive, so far...

Broke the little blade of a buck stockman whittling some cedar, still used the other blades for years after until it got lost, and I broke a hollow handle survival knife.
