Brown G10 Stretch 2

WHat is the change you are referring to? I missed any sign of it.
No big change, just Constant Quality Improvement. If you read the Native 5's description on Spyderco's site it mentions it. I've read that the Native 5's are noticeably tighter more consistently. the Natives ergos are horrible in my hand, so I'm waiting for another knife to have a better back lock. I have three Stretch's and would love it to be even more refined.

200 + is now spyderco new model . Most knives coming out of Taiwan are 200 plus . Haven't bought a new spyderco since the native 5 CF and the only one that I can justify the $200 is the yajimbo 2 CF . I'll keep buying them at the exchange .

I own a Stretch with blue FRN and ZDP-189. I love the knife. The street price was $92 a couple of years ago. Just saying. G10 is swell, but Cold Steel uses G10 on their $60 knives, and the stuff is not made of gold. I think the frustrating thing here is that we love this G10 Stretch and want it in our pockets, but the $110 premium over what the street price "should" be is very hard to swallow.

Spyderco is growing it's entire product line and while it is true that they are producing more and more knives over $200 lets keep in mind that they are the company currently selling a Manix in S110V for around $100 and you can still find Para2s for just over $100 and the regular production Manix2 can be had for a bit less than $100. In my opinion these represent some of the best deals in the knife industry. Unfortunately it does seem as though the price of knives coming out of Japan has gone up a bit but I believe that may be due to other factors which are beyond Spyderco's control.

That said, I also wish this new Stretch was going to be a bit more affordable and it may very well affect my decision to buy or not to buy. :(

Love the Stretch and this is tempting.

Wish they would come out with one in H1 though!

It's supposed to be cheaper to produce over seas . I just don't see it . If Zero Tolerance made all there knives in Taiwan they would be around $140 .

I don't think that I can justify $210 either but only time will tell. My wish list is always too long and this one might keep getting pushed on down. :)

I will check out the G-10 sample because I think the photos are awesome. But if the up/down blade play is still there, I'll go VG-10 and 75.00 if I feel like I have to have one.

Like others have said, they are making great knives in the USA, for decent prices. I can't pay 200.00 for a knife with blade play, no matter how nice the G-10 looks on it.

Not a problem for me since, aside from the Autonomy, the Stretch 2 is the only one of the upcoming Spydercos I'll be buying this year. That is, unless they re-release some more Kitchen Sharps.

I realized that my post on the previous page may have sounded negative regarding the price. I understand that people will buy it, however, it's beyond the point of diminished return for myself. My perspective changes when I compare a new BM 940 and a new Delica 4 for the same price. When looked at from that angle, I don't see the value.

Japanese production cost should be good right now as the Yen has been printed into oblivion (inflation/QE), and the USD has been heating up. I haven't been watching the Yen lately though. But with the USD index bouncing around 100 lately, prices on things should be dropping right now.

I thought they were releasing in G-10 to see what the reception would be before they spent the money to tool up for FRN molds. Don't know where I read that.

In the Stretch platform or any lock back I prefer FRN by a large margin.

That's the plan as I understand it. Sal has mentioned it a few times. Definitely on the Spyderco Forum and probably here as well. I just wish they'd do what I would consider "the best of both worlds", namely FRN scales with full liners.

Variety is never bad and Spyderco definately has it.:)

Never taken a Stretch apart - they have what - partial liners than don't run the length of the handle?

It's peel-ply G-10, so I have a hard time getting "super excited" over it. :o

Still, it's one of the only two of Spyderco's announced offerings that keep me checking my dealer's "What's New" page in hopes it will appear and I figure I can find someone to remove the peel-ply texture and polish the scales, or replace them altogether, so I'm at least "moderately excited". :)

How is it peel ply g10? I mean... what would be under the brown g10?

I was excited until I saw how much it cost.

Wow, yeah. That seems out of hand comparing it to other knives in that price range.

The Stretch 2 always seemed like a great practical knife to me, but was much more interesting at a much more reasonable price range.
