Buck !!0 question

Goodness, BG42EDGE, 69 people have joined the BCCI since I joined, and I still feel like a newbie!

I'm just waiting for #2037 so I won't be the TOTAL newby!!!

:D

Anybody working on that? (I hope.)

Actually, I'm not sure those numbers go in order, do they?

I suppose with a revered sage of all things Buck like 110Dave.......they'd probably retire his member number and hang a gold-plated medallion of that number on the walls of the Buck Hall of Fame and never use it again.

Like......the Mickey Mantle of Buck.

:)

I think they do, but I think they also include non-lifetime members, so some numbers get retired.

Someone at BCCI could better answer, though.

It's my understanding that numbers get recycled. My number is lower than say, Flatlander1963, but he joined before I did. I'm sure that there are many who buy an annual membership, get a number and then never renew.

 Yes Sir! Mine is #1175. They went back and filled all the holes. I should have been much higher up in the count! I think I joined in 2007????????

my number is 749.. it was my annual number..
i joined as life and did not know they would chnage the number
i was given a 1400 something number and a 532 with that number on it
sold the 532 to some one i think was going to ask
for that number as his Life #
i asked for my annual number to be my lifetime # and they said ok
the 749 number was part of a series of skipped numbers
they were using up on annual memberships ..
for a while i had two numbers listed in the membership rolls..
you can sell your membership and number to any one..
several old founding charter members or their family have done so..
i would buy membership 110 if i could ... but dont recall who has it ..

no... i dont think i will be remembered that well
not every one in the club likes me as i was and still
may be a loose cannon with a sputtering fuse..
besides i have done nothing to deserve any praise ...
that said ...:foot::foot::rolleyes:
i may run for office or advisory panel or on the board
jest need a opening and some one to nominator me in atlanta..:foot:

Dave, you sell yourself short......you've been a Buck stalwart for many years and your collection is fabulous.

I've found that there will always be a few people (probably very insecure people) who will jump on anybody who dares to rock the boat. But I think most people respect your long history and your knowledge of 110s and other Bucks.

And you invented the Rubber Bucky!

:D

This is an illuminating thread.
So if they recycle membership numbers, does that mean someone else may have #1967 engraved on the blades of their knives and not only me?? Or was the #1967 from a block of numbers reserved for lifers? And do they recycle lifetime numbers when someone dies?

That's a good question. I asked when I got mine why it was lower than flats and was told they recycled the numbers. It would make sense that they might only recycle numbers that had been issued to yearly members.

But then again, can't yearly members get the club knives with their number on it, or can only lifers? Seems like an newer member and an older one could end up with getting the same numbered knife if the older member dropped the membership.

There could definately be other guys with your current member number on their old club knives! I wasnt too concerned as it is likely I would never run across them anyway :D
I joined for one year as a yearly membership and then went straight to lifetime so my number never changed, but someone else had it before me.
I am just happy I got to join at all :D ;)
Best money I ever spent on a membership!

gee i think they had blocks they skipped for some reason
now they may be useing anual numbers that have been issued at some time
and have not been paid for a year or two ...
the lifer member ship i joinded under some how was part of a membership
drive and was one of a few such that when you joined you got a knife
with your number on it.. they issued me the lifer number as the knife had it already on it 1460's something 1463 ?
i liked my lower number so i asked to keep it and there was a forum member that wanted that 146something number...i think he joined the club with that number when his annual ran out..

i guess we can ask Jack how numbers are issued now but
i am sure there are not any duplicate numbers out there active
at the same time..
remember vote for davy !!!

there a lot of folks that make the club work and
give a lot of them selves doing so
they deserve to be recognized for the things they do every day..
as they go the extra mile every day fo the club
ugh jest go to BCCI web and look at the officers names and
then thank them here..

no i have jest been on the forum and run my mouth for a number of years
i dont go out and get new members signed up..
and so what i have a bunch of knives ... nice ones but still...

there are a lot of newbies that really rush in to do things
like look up information for some one
or dig hard like 300 does for every datum they can find..

THE only thing i did for the buck forum was push to get the
buck knife for sale forum started...
and a LOT of others helped

and the thing i do for Buck knife awareness is have my silly contests
with a knife give away..
as for the BCCI ... well i have not done much but make folks aware that
the club is there if you want to join..example
on your (42) forum did you put down i sent you ?

come on every one that joins now make davy known and
put 749 on your member ship app !!
that way they know i am out betting the bushes for members!!

most every newbie goes through a period of "doing"
i .. well dont do much these days but try to keep outa trouble

Me too. I'm pleased with the club, the benefits and everything. It doesn't make too much difference about the member number, but it would be interesting to know if someone else has that number on a club knife.

Dave, for some people that's easy......but for you it's a giant accomplishment!!!

:D

(I know, because I tends to get in a little bit of trouble myself.)
