I understand one is meant for cutting meat and other cutting wood, but which would make a better fixed edc?

one will hear plenty about moras
but a 102 will be far in between.
food for thought though...

The question is: what do you want your knife to do?

What do you find yourself cutting daily? Which sheath appeals more to you? (That last one is important for something you’re planning on carrying every day. For an EDC fixed blade, it’s almost more important than the knife).

If that was the two knives I was choosing between, I’d go with the 102, but that’s my particular taste. What’s yours?

I'll give you credit with coming here with two specific knives...but your question isn't as straightforward as it would seem. I like fixed blades...carry one pretty much all the time, unless I'm at (going to, or coming from) work. It's pretty tough to beat the value of a Mora; I have a couple - different models - but I don't carry either as an EDC. I've considered buying a Buck 102 or 105...but, frankly, the style just doesn't appeal to me for regular use/carry.
Enough about me, though, since (as far as I know) you aren't buying this knife for me. Either knife would serve you well. One might be somewhat better than the other FOR YOU, depending on what your normal usage will be; but you haven't given us that information. If you've handled both, and like both, go with whichever appeals to you. If budget is a concern, the Mora #2 is the obvious choice. If budget isn't a concern, buy them both and figure out which one you like better.

Mora, because I am a cheap S.O.B. (Yes. My mum was a proper term for a female dog.)
I'd probably choose the Classic Number 1, over the number 2 though. I don't need a blade in excess of 4 inches for roughly 99.99998% of the things I use a knife for.
I admit I am not very fond of the current Mora sheath. I am not a fan of plastic sheaths. I'd rather have leather or even nylon.
Fortunately, a new (not used) serviceable leather sheath can be had for less than what the knife costs, if you shop around.
BTW both the Buck and the Mora are equally capable of cutting/whittling wood, cutting meat, and skinning a critter. :)

Personally?

In between of the 2 Buck has the edge because it has a guard.

But Mora is cheaper and that is good factor too.

I also dislike design of the Buck.
And steel choice is not my cup of tea either.

They will both make a good EDC. But are different worlds.

In conclusion I can't make a decision either. And my EDC is miles away from both (Drop Forged Hunter by Cold Steel).

Thanks for all the responses. I listed these two knives specifically because they were around the same size, and I found both designs visually appealing. I will be more likely to use it for food prep than whittling throughout the day, due to the fact I’m not in the woods every day. The sheath on the mora looks a bit more utilitarian though. I may just get both!

Between the two, I’d take the Mora, because it’s so light and better suited to pocket carry. However, the flat grind of the Green River Fish Knife, on the left, is better suited to food prep. A sheath for a 5” Kabar fits it nicely and makes for a nice inexpensive companion rig for around camp or general use.

The Mora 612 on the right is a #2 with a single guard. Yes, the plastic sheath is cheesy, but it slides nicely in and out of a pocket.

Getting both, or even all three, is not a bad plan, and not financially out of reach for most.

BTW, I guess you are not a troll. The single post raised a red flag. Welcome to the forum.

This is my first post so yeah, no troll here. I think I’ll just get both, as they’re not that expensive of knives. I just wanted to see what the opinions of some of the more experienced enthusiasts were.

think I’ll just get both,
. That’s not a bad idea, considering how inexpensive the Mora is. If you like the Buck better you can always relegate the Mora to the garage, toolbox, glovebox. I picked a 102 up new last month for under $42 shipped so they are very affordable.

Nice photo. Yeah, Like I said, I’m think I’m going to get both since they’re not really expensive knives. I do like the shiny hardware on Buck’s 100 series blades.

The 212 is an excellent knife.
I kind of prefer the proportions of the 102, but the blade on the 212 sure is gorgeous.
The handle is comfortable but just seems oversized in proportion to the blade, and that's why I like the 102 a little more.
Put a 102 handle on a 212 and it would win for me, I wouldn't mind rehandling my 212 with a piece of stay but for what the knife costed I don't wanna mess it up.

I’ve never understood the handle “proportion to the blade” theory.

The blade is for the task at hand, the handle is meant to fit a hand. They don’t need to be proportional to each other.

Not saying you are wrong, I’ve heard others say the same thing.
