I just saw that Gen 5 skinner and immediately looked it up. Looks like something I’d enjoy.IMHO the 103 is a skinner and not suited for all purpose use. You might consider a from top to bottom, a 117, a 102, compared with a 103 and at the bottom a Gen 5 skinner. The 103's blade shape is the draw back for all purpose use. The 102's handle is small and can be problematic to prolonged use.

The more I look at the comparison picture I took, the more I think you’ll be better off with the modified 103. Please post pictures.DeSotoSky that modified 105 is sort of what I had in mind, beautiful.
I missed the boat on those phenolic 212's, I was under employed for a time and by the time I recovered they were hard to find. Really thought about the ironwood limited model but could not make myself pull the trigger. So, here I am, planning on ordering another heritage series 103 next weekend and doing some blade shaping. The more I use the 103 the more I enjoy the feel.
I wish the Gen5 had a lanyard hole like the 113.I think the Gen-5 is about the ideal small fixed blade. I have 2 Blade Show award Gen-5's and at least a dozen times I started to pull one out and use it. Because of the mirror polished blades and the award inscription (I display them with my 112's) I reluctantly put them back in the pile. One is a Burl and the other Elk? Kind of a fat/broad blade like the 103 I always thought it was one of the best designs for a user.
That looks great. Thanks for sharing.
First attempt at 103 modification.
