I recently purchase an early Buck Knife from an estate and I am pretty sure its a first or second version. I has the original sheath what is only marked "Buck" on the snap and the knife is marked "Buck" on the rear top, left side of the blade. Any help to identfy a first and second version? Thank you!

Yep,

Trax is right......you have got to post some pic's for all to see.

Can you get a closeup shot of the base of the blade? Show any imprinting there.

It's hard to tell from your picture, but i looks like it's stamped horizontaly on the nail nick side of the blade and if it is your knife is a 1965 second version, also look at the spacer if the spacer is a bone-hard reddish fiber thats
another indication it's a second version.

First version 1964 110s are stamped horizontal along the back side of the blade,(non-nail nick side) with a steel spacer
First version 1964-65 have a rare etched stamp that is horizontal, also along the back of the blade (non-nail nick side)

I just looked at your third picture and it definetly marked horizontal on the nail nick side, so it's a second version, it's hard
to tell but i think the BUCK is stamped not etched.

I have one like that also, nice knife

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it?

Thats a nice find, whichever variation it turns out to be! :D
To know for sure, like honesttom said, we need to see the spacer.

I didn't pay much. I think I am going to list it on ebay. I am not much of a knife collector, but I do find a ton of them through my business!

Make sure you show the end of the knife in your auction. From the side, a lot of the earlier 110's look the same.
Good luck!

Let us know when you are going to list it so, perhaps, a collector from BCCI or at least from this forum might be able to bid and keep it within the family.

I'm curious to know if First and Second Version 110s will have the frame pins in the bolsters that show from both sides...or just on the left side. Are the first 2 110 versions made from from brass castings, with the frame pins being integral to the right hand frame side, so when the 2 halves were pressed together, the pins only showed on the left side of the 110?

The one I have has the single front pin showing on both sides. Then the rear two pins only showing on the side with the nail nick side. The auction is up and running. Thank you for all the information!

First version 110's have 2 variations and second version 110's come in 3 variations. I really should stop right there because it is already confusing enough! :D
The one piece separate pin through the front bolster is found on both variations of the first version and only the first variation of the second version.
On the rear bolster pins, they were integral to the right hand side all the way up to variation 3 of the third version. By the way, the third version has 7 known variations, including one that only has 1 rear bolster rivet.

I hope that makes sense?

Can you go straight down the line, year by year with each version, and each version's variations; from 1963 through 1973? I doubt I can be alone in the quest for clarification. It would certainly be appreciated. Listing it in a column chart format would be great, not to mention it would be less confusing this way.

YEAR---VERSION---VARIATION---STAMP/ETCH---SPACER---INT. FR. BOLSTER PINS---INT. R BOLSTER PINS---NOTES---PHOTO

That type of information would be greatly appreciated by many....and could be the basis for a page or 2 in a newsletter, if it hasn't previously been covered in one. If it has been written, anyone know which year?
