Speaking from my own limited experience with my 110AE:I have owned a few 110 autos. Sold them off because the lack of serious thwack when opening bummed me out. They don't spring open with authority. But with that said, I miss having one so I just purchased a 110 auto elite and hope that this one is a keeper.
I may even search out the traditional 110 auto to have back in house as well.
"With authority" might not have been the best phrase to use. Maybe I should have said "positive lockup". I'm not expecting the knife to jump out of my hand, but I do want it to fully open every timeThe spring on my 112 and 110 are both strong enough to open the blade every time. If they opened harder, that would just cause more wear over time. I don't know why people want their knives to "open with authority."
I actually do want some authority. I had a Boker Top Lock that I liked the design of, but often wondered if the spring was defective it took so long to open. On the other hand my LUDT opens almost with too much force as I need to have a careful grip when opening or it flies out my hand. My 110 and my 112 seem about right but my converted Buck Duke has it perfect as opposed to my Buck Deploy which is anemic. The spring on my 112 and 110 are both strong enough to open the blade every time. If they opened harder, that would just cause more wear over time. I don't know why people want their knives to "open with authority."
