Buck 110 EDC?

I used to carry my 110 30 plus years ago because it really was my only knife.Nostalgia wants me to again but in Michigan legal limit is 3 inches. It was back then but everybody carried them and the political climate is different today or am I overthinking?
maybe, but maybe not. i don't know michigan laws, but laws are laws. some weapons laws fall under felonies. breaking them isnt worth potentially losing ones voting and firearm owning rights. along with big bucks for legal defenses. lawyers are not cheap.

when in doubt contact a weapons lawyer. if ya cant afford to do that and many of us cant.....contact state, county, and local police and ask for a written statement on the laws. they are supposed to help you follow the laws. lastly use your state rep, county commissioner, city electorate, etc....it's their job to help you stay within the laws.

I can tell you from my own experiences most have no idears on the laws and dont really want to help you, but its still worth the exercise so you see how your govt works or doesnt work for you when you need their help to stay within the laws and ordinances. plus come voting time. mind you some states like mine make emails public record so very careful on what you write.

I see folks often say dont worry cause i dont routine, along with I've never had any issues in x years etc, but none of that matters the one time it happens. only takes one time. when it happens you'll wish you didnt listen to the internet guy who was lucky and never had a problem.

okay long winded advice over with......

The legal limit in Michigan is 3” for concealed carry. I live in Michigan and carry much larger knives in plain sight.

Because of a run in I had with an ignorant LEO a long while back that cost me alot of time and aggravation I carry this behind my license now
Hand written MD knife law.

With it hand written i would think a leo that was ignorant of the law would laugh at you. Im sure you can find it online and print it off, shrink it down to fit, then you might cause him to look it up.

Overthinking, unless you belong to a class of people that are prone to being stopped by cops. Buck 110 not being allowed doesn't sound like the part of MI I visit. Now if ya like to drink and brawl...:)

No,I don't drink or brawl and haven't had a traffic ticket in over 35 years.I do realize that people seem to be hypersensitive now.

75% of the time. Carry somewhat smaller knives(500, 112 ecolite etc) a lot wearing shorts and may rotate to a 317 or other favorite for fun, but 110 most of the time. Especially now since my wife and daughter got me a elk scaled S30V drop point for fathers day and they want me to carry it and use it as an edc rather than safe queen. Good family!

That's y the statue numbers are on there. So it can be referenced in their little book so they don't think I just made it up. And I've thought about it I just haven't done it. Lol I've had the piece of paper for almost 8 years now

My state police officer friend also told me,

when asked why you have your knife, don't ever reply it's for self defense. That can be interpreted as intent to harm others and can get you in trouble, regardless of the knife size.

That's a big thing. The same lawyer the suggested I have the law with me said this also. It's always a TOOL. Saying it's for self defense is a no no.

I had a Buck on my belt back in 1978 in New Orleans the day after Mardi Graw (sic) ended..New Orleans finest took me to the ground and only after I showed them my Military ID give it back to me. One of the two officers told me to put it in my pocket. When he asked me why I had it I told him "Wouldn't you have one here?"

I carry mine in a horizontal belt sheath at about 5-4 o’clock. Sometimes I carry it in my pocket at work. It’s not prohibitively heavy, but I know it’s there.

to the ground in n.o......yuck. the 3 p's and spit and other nastiness down there year round, just way more at Mardi gras time.

I agree. Absolutely never tell a cop it's for self defense, even if it's for the stray dogs in your hood. That instantly classifies it as a weapon, and many places classify any knife being carried as a weapon as illegal and if in your pocket, concealed. Even if switchblades are legal in the state, as a weapon they are illegal. That's the genesis of the dagger/dirk restriction (e.g. double edged blades), because these, by definition, are designed as weapons.

I wouldn't go quoting the law to any cop. Even if it's legal, they can still ruin your day if they dislike your attitude. Don't get me wrong, I like da police, there's a fair number of them in my family :)

Yea telling a cop how to do his job is always a bad idea. Only when my day has already been ruined would that come out, last resort kinda thing. In 8years I never had a need but it's mainly because there is a misconception around here that there is a blade length limit and I carry alot of big folders.

I had a local officer tell me carry whatever you want. But if you are doing something you shouldn’t than they will add a weapons charge with whatever your doing. Now I don’t think that’s gospel at all but makes sense.

So,if you buy a 110 or other 5 inch folders in one state and go to another state,do you lock them in your trunk?

My Uncle was a NYC cop and when I came from MO to visit, he saw my Puma lockback with 4" blade and told me to keep it in my trunk until I got out of the city. I was 30, driving a beater Ford sedan that needed rings so it blew smoke, I was ticket bait. I had luggage in the trunk so I stashed it there when I left. In his neighborhood, my Aunt used to watch the clothes dry so they wouldn't get stolen.
