Buck 110 Folding Hunter Pro - Loose Blade and Dent

I recently bought a new Buck 110 Folding Hunter Pro and the blade is very loose when closed. It also has some noticeable play at lock up. There is also a light dent in one of the bolsters near the pivot.

I really like this folder but it’s 3rd one I have received with issues. The first one had bad blade centering and would rub. The 2nd one had more of a brassy color on the bolsters instead of nickel. It too had an off centered blade.

Should I return this one and hope for another or try to fix myself?

Sorry to hear you have multiple issues with your 110 Pro. To be honest, I've seen more off centered blades on 110's than centered ones over the years. I can live with it as long as the blade is not rubbing anything. Blade play also sounds familiair but I usually fix this myself. These knives are the old school of how knives were made including the (sometimes) accuring flaws. In your case I would send it back again and phone them to explain your issues and hope they will pick a perfect one next time. Good luck.

Thank you Wouter. I have already spent too much shipping the other 2 back. I asked for retailer to hand pick one with good centering which they kind of did but it’s lose. I don’t expect perfection but I do expect better quality control.

Sucks sending them back but should be made right naturally. Price now around $60 for that model with 420H.C. ? Kinda surprised to hear of this from Buck.

pretty sure he's talkin bout the discontinued pro model. s30v one and g10 nickel silver.

send back to Buck themselves op. maybe ask Jeff here to intervene and help ya.

I gave my 110 Pro away. The nickel silver bolsters had a very bad smell and the S30V steel startet to rust without ever using it. I wouldn't buy this 110 version again. To me it was a complete fail.

jbmonkey jbmonkey . The Pro is discontinued? Interesting.

My two 110 Pro's have been flawless except for tarnished bolsters on the newest one that arrived last week. It came off easy with some Flitz.

I too wouldn't be bothered by an off-centered blade unless it was rubbing. If that was the case I would send it back to Buck for repair or replacement.

Sometimes I wonder if, when buying the last of a discontinued item from a retailer, you're getting the returns customers sent in that were simply returned to stock and are now being resold.....
I believe the same. I had 3 of them from a large retailer and none met expectations

Well that kinda sucks! Might not be a fair comparison but my folding Alpha seems pretty flawless. Never had any blade play. Interesting how some models of the same differ.

Actually, I'd bet this issue was a factor in the decision Buck made to stop exclusives with retailers like SK and Copper and Clad.

I heard rumors, but don't wanna get into all that. But it stands to reason that any 100 count run will have a few that are not as good as the others.

On a side note; I cannot help but notice many of Buck's recent L.E.s and BOTMs are remakes of those former exclusive offerings.....

I had a 110 Pro I bought directly from Buck and it arrived with an off-center blade, bent tip, and scratched bolsters.
Sent it back, and found one at DLT (I believe). It showed up with a centered and straight blade, but it also had scratches on one of the bolsters, with i sanded and polished out.
Now its my favorite 110.

Never know. The

The 2nd Pro I received was different than the other 2. It had brushed brass bolsters and the anvil stamp on the blade instead. If you look at the one on knife center’s website it’s different and the same one I received. It’s not where I ordered though.

If it weren't for this forum, I wouldn't have known blade centering on a folder was a critical issue.

What's next, nail nick too deep?

You’d think though after building millions of 110’s and 112’s they’d be able to figure out how to get them centered without much thought going into it however, they are pretty simple knives. Especially on the expensive BOTM and Legacy knives. Hell, even with “Pro” in the name they should be better built than the clamshell knives.

Some collectors just expect more when they see other knife companies pay attention to the small details like that.

Please educate me. Provide an example of a similarly manufactured folding knife where the blade is centered in whatever consistency you deem appropriate.

Here's what I would like to see in your example:
1) A design that's been used without significant change for more than 50 years.
2) A model that has been counted in the millions sold.
3) A model that has a simple peened pivot.
4) A model that costs less than $100.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, though it may appear that way. I'm just trying to understand why it's critical that the blade of a folding knife is in some arbitrary position while the blade is stowed. Would you complain if a fixed blade knife wasn't centered in the sheath? A blade in its stowed position has absolutely zero impact on the functionality of the knife whether it's for cutting or viewing.

"Some collectors" appreciate the heritage first, and can look past implied flaws.

For example; some collector shelled out more than $1,200 for this 110 with a blade that's not centered.
