Hey guys, I'm hoping somebody can help me out... I'm thinking of buying an SK Blades Smokejumper for a project. I'd like to re-handle it in 1/4" Micarta and do an adjustable pivot (I'm a pretty experienced knife butcher, this should not be too difficult a project). I realize this is similar to the Slim Pro, however it'd get me the standard 110 blade shape, a similar contour to the standard 110 handle and an adjustable pivot...

I'm looking for the part circled below: Does anyone know if there's anywhere to acquire one, other than buying another 110 to take apart or making one myself?

Thanks in advance :)

I don't recall his name (so not much help) but there is a member here who makes that part with a loop for a fob or lanyard.

I rather doubt Buck would sell that spacer separately, but you could ask them?

find a donor knife on ebay that is beaten to death and worth very little, maybe.

pretty sure Buck wont sell parts.

That's a bread crumb, thanks! I'd seen pictures of old eBay auctions for knives with a lanyard loop added. I didn't realise the person was a member here, but that makes sense. I'll do some digging!

Yeah I'd e-mailed or called Buck a while back, that was a no-go. I've been trying to dredge up a beater 110 off the 'bay, seems like they hold their value pretty well, even in bad shape. I'll keep looking there, you never know. I have a Frontier 4815 that I've been looking closely at as a donor, but it's in real good shape and those aren't any too cheap!

I have a few of them if you need one .

dsutton24 dsutton24 hooked me up, I appreciate it though! I've got a mess of parts heading my way. I'm going to post work in progress pictures once I get everything in. I'm really excited to start, I've been carrying my two dot the last couple days in anticipation of the project.

Sounds like you're making exactly what the Buck 110 slim should be, at least what it should be if they're going to call it a 110.
looking forward to seeing what you eventually come up with.

Made some progress last night... A lot more than I thought, actually!

Took apart the donor from dsutton24 dsutton24 . Interesting to see the wear inside. The spring was pretty weak. Lock bar and lock/tang interface were still good though!

Drilled out a fixture from some scrap wood to hold everything on place while I work. I also put the spring holder on with the new blade to make sure tolerances were the same from the two dot handle donor to the Smokejumper

I also dropped the Smokejumper blade into the two dot handles. Not gonna lie, I almost just pinned it up like this and called it good! I don't think these handles have seen the last of their useful life...

I used the old handles to drill out the new Micarta slabs, then I stacked them and used the handles to drill out the outline in the Micarta. Really reduces dust, not so much sawing and sanding, just snap off the excess

Time for rough shaping. Pinned the two handles together for the sake of symmetry when I'm done. The 80 grit belt makes really quick work of the drilled out Micarta. I know Micarta is bad stuff, I wore a respirator and kept it cool so it didn't make the formaldehyde smoke

That's looking more familiar!

Here's where I left off last night

I think it'll be a couple of days until I can spend more time on it. It's gonna take more finishing than I thought - the Burlap Micarta chipped out pretty badly around the holes, I'm going to have to sand it down pretty well to work those out. I haven't installed the liners yet, I bought them to make up some extra width so my pivots would be long enough, but so far I don't need them. I will see what happens once I sand down the chipped out sections.

Thanks! It's coming along. I don't like a half-finished project, so I'm struggling a little bit now not heading out to the garage to radius the handles and countersink for the screws. Working form home is not for the faint of heart...

I was worried that the spring holder was worn too much to be used, never thought about the laziness being a bad spring. I've often wondered about what happened to this knife's blade... Ick!

Ha! Yeah somebody was really tough on that knife ~ kind of relieved it wasn't you ;)

The spring holder is immaculate, especially considering it looked like it'd been used as a hammer more than once. There are a couple nicks left that need to be sanded out. I couldn't talk MT_Pokt out of a lanyard spring holder, I may make one out of Micarta or brass for a future project, using this as a template.

Here's the spring holder

The 110 is pretty neat inside. You can tell it was meant to be worked on. I had a Kawasaki motorcycle that was a nightmare to do even basic stuff on. I switched over to a Suzuki and you could tell the engineers built it with maintenance in mind. The 110 reminds me a lot of the Suzuki. All the parts between the two dot and Smokejumper were swappable. Very impressive for being built 40+ years apart.
