Just don’t get the cheapest possible Cold Steel and it will be a better knife than a modern Buck."What is the best option for a folding knife for tactical use, a Buck 110 Sport or a Cold Steel?"
Much better blade steel too, unless you really splash out for the S30v 110.
Well in that case, he should know that S30v will hold an edge longer, but may chip instead of rolling the edge, depending on what it hits. The OP asked about the 110 Sport which has an S30V blade.
Don't roll your eyes at me
Don't roll your eyes at me, for 150 bucks you can get a cold steel with s35vn steel with a better locking mechanism and that would be a better choice than a buck 110 hunter in all possible universes.

The Buck110 has a rather delicate point, so if he gets it, he should be careful not to snap it off.
Yes, it is, and that's your opinion. I can list my reasons, but do you have a rational reason other than "I like buck 110"? By the way, the buck 110 is a classic that I really like, but I see no reason to make it the first choice when you have better steel, a better lock and more options for the same money. That’s your opinion.
I respect Buck as an organization. I respect their business practices and manufacturing processes. I admire the conduct of their founders and of their current CEO.Yes, it is, and that's your opinion. Thank you for confirming me. I wish you good luck with "heritage", "nostalgia" and "soul of a thing". Buck 110 hunter sport really seems to carry all of theseI respect Buck as an organization. For me, it’s not all about getting the best deal or best materials for my money. If it was, I’d buy everything from Chinese companies. Sometimes it’s about the heritage, nostalgia, and soul of a thing.
You blatantly stated that your opinion was fact. That’s obviously nonsense. I don’t feel compelled to give you what, by your standards, are rational reasonings for my preferences. You do you.
Thank you for confirming me. I wish you good luck with "heritage", "nostalgia" and "soul of a thing". Buck 110 hunter sport really seems to carry all of these![]()
If it's just a question of shopping without asking anybody, I would agree with you. You can go out or go online and buy any knife you want for any reason you want. But as you can see the op has asked a question here and we are answering it. Otherwise there is no need for a discussion section in a forum. Everyone would buy things for their own reasons and we wouldn't talk about it. People don't have to be rational but it is a right to point out the obvious answer between two choices and why that choice is obvious. Op listens to both sides and decides which one is important to him and makes a choice accordingly. The aim here is to present the features of both brands to the person who opened this thread from the perspective of different people who value these features. Of course someone needs to talk about the legacy of the buck brand, but someone also needs to talk about the other options. I hope I made myself clear. We should have opposing ideas so that this place can be valuable. People should be able to hear all kinds of opinions. They should hear from people who want to buy the best material, design, features at the cheapest price, people who buy knives with patriotic instincts, people who focus on the company rather than the product. We should all be able to argue with each other respectfully.Today we represent opposing ideas here, tomorrow we may be under the same idea.Personally, I think I have learned something from everyone here and I enjoy discussing things here.If our knife-buying decisions were rational, we would all carry SAKs and Moras and admit that we really don't use our knives for anything "tactical." Instead, we like our knives and we like them for different reasons. For me, heritage and soul have some significance, as does American manufacturing. Others choose knives for their durability or the type of steel. If one knife is better than another, well, that's an opinion. The knife that calls to you, that's more of a feeling. Either way, nobody's wrong.
paragraphs please...on a phone this^ is a wall of text.....makes it harder to read. ya made some good statements here, but paragraphs just make it so much easier to read. thank you.If it's just a question of shopping without asking anybody, I would agree with you. We are comrades in the same boat with the same hobby. Even if we look at different horizons, our ship is heading in the same direction. I love this freaking place.

Because the op asked for two brands (or even a specific model of a brand and a whole brand against it). Otherwise, of course, we should never limit ourselves to these, otherwise how can we be a collector?I wouldn't say that we have opposing ideas as much as we prefer different characteristics in our knives. I think that a 110 Sport or many Cold Steel knives would be entirely capable of most tasks that a reasonable person would perform with a folding knife, be it tactical (whatever that actually means) or otherwise. Then again, why limit the choice to two brands?
