Buck 110 Sport or CS ?

If it's just a question of shopping without asking anybody, I would agree with you. You can go out or go online and buy any knife you want for any reason you want. But as you can see the op has asked a question here and we are answering it. Otherwise there is no need for a discussion section in a forum. Everyone would buy things for their own reasons and we wouldn't talk about it. People don't have to be rational but it is a right to point out the obvious answer between two choices and why that choice is obvious. Op listens to both sides and decides which one is important to him and makes a choice accordingly. The aim here is to present the features of both brands to the person who opened this thread from the perspective of different people who value these features. Of course someone needs to talk about the legacy of the buck brand, but someone also needs to talk about the other options. I hope I made myself clear. We should have opposing ideas so that this place can be valuable. People should be able to hear all kinds of opinions. They should hear from people who want to buy the best material, design, features at the cheapest price, people who buy knives with patriotic instincts, people who focus on the company rather than the product. We should all be able to argue with each other respectfully.Today we represent opposing ideas here, tomorrow we may be under the same idea.Personally, I think I have learned something from everyone here and I enjoy discussing things here. The True North The True North My dear friend, I hope you enjoyed it too, even though we argued. We are comrades in the same boat with the same hobby. Even if we look at different horizons, our ship is heading in the same direction. I love this freaking place.

Sure man. 👍🏻

Cold steel. This is a fact, not an option.

This is where we run into issues.

The OP asked about the 110 Sport and "Cold Steel" in general. So, I thought I'd just throw-in my $0.02...

First, I LOVE the Buck 110. My Dad (*RIP) was an avid hunter/sportsman for most of the decades of his life, and the 110 was the ONLY knife I ever saw him use. I can't count the number of whitetail I saw him gut/skin/quarter with his "classic" 110 Hunters. (*his own scores and those of others who asked him to teach them the craft) I never saw him afield without that little black leather sheath on his belt. Love it or hate it, it's an iconic blade.

That being posted, it's a "hunting" knife in my humble opinion, and that is where it excels. The 110 Sport, with its modern "accoutrements"...S30V blade, thumb studs, aluminum body, Micarta inlays, pocket clip...is the knife that he never could've imagined, in his wildest dreams. If he'd live long enough to see the production of that particular knife, I have no doubt that my brother and I would've gone half'sies to get one for him.

Second, as far as Cold Steel, I feel that they do (*and always have) offered tremendous value, when it comes to really robust folders. The AD-10, 4-Max and 4-Max Scout, SR1 and SR1 LITE, etc, etc., etc.; They offer some really great folders.

"Tactical" has become a bit of a generic term. Police/S.W.A.T., Military, etc.; Hell, even "Fire" and "E.M.S." units have personnel embedded in "Tactical" teams, nowadays. Me? In a "tactical" situation, I'd just prefer a robust fixie. A folder wouldn't even be on my radar, unless policy/mandate dictated or limited my choices.

For my money, if I was looking at Cold Steel, these two would be my first choices for a robust/bomb-proof Cold Steel folder...

Both are absolutely solid performers, built like a tank, and (*if I remember correctly) both are offered with a tanto blade. (*if that's your thing)

Again, just my humble opinion, which...with $2.99...will get you a sh!tty cup of coffee at your local convenience store.

Flame on and carry on.

"Just the facts , Ma'am " ...like on Dragnet ! ;)

I'd say most people that ever actually used, any of the better Cold Steel Tri-ad folders, would have the same "opinion " .

Maybe so. And good for them, I guess.

Doesn’t make it objective fact.

Are we going to devolve into another unfortunate thread about which lock type is better for stabbing dudes? If so, count me out.

If you actually believe that your opinions are objective fact, we have nothing more to discuss.

✌️
Yes, I think it is, because it's based on measurable things. Such as quality, price, durability. At least things that take place all over the world. It is not based on anything like the soul of things. I wish you a good day.

In pretty much any context other than deciding based on country of origin, I'd pick a tanto Recon 1 over a 110 Sport. The tanto Recon 1 is hollow ground and cuts similarly to a buck 110 while being built tougher and at a higher quality level.

I’ll take an American made knife manufactured by a stand-up company with a rich heritage over a Taiwanese knife marketed by a sketchy, sold-out company, any day.

The origin of a knife far supersedes any smalls gains in how it performs against another knife in fantasy situations.

Just one man’s opinion. All I’ve got to say about that.

That's understandable. I've just never seen a Buck that's impressed me. Considering that both Buck and CS are making more overbuilt knives than people really need, I don't think it's unreasonable to go for the one that's built better.

I'm still not sure what a tactical knife really is for most people. I guess if you are a person who engages in tactics daily where you might be wearing gloves, need to cut something a hurry, and might need to bear down on the blade, then you may NEED tactical knife. If you're talking about carrying this knife on the off chance of getting out of a pickle...pretty much anything should work well enough.

If you are talking about a knife that you can abuse, then I would say the CS does a better job. It's lighter, has a stonger lock, stronger tip, etc. I think this version of the 110 is great for those of us that might really like the 110 but find the need for a belt sheath and no one handed opening a modern day chore.

For an EDC work knife, I think the 110 sport would be aces if you swear by the 110 like my old man does.
