Buck 110 - With or Without Finger Grooves?

Mine lacks the finger grooves, but is still a very comfortable knife. In fact, I don't think that I would want a finger groove model.

I'm of a mind that the finger grooves (however they look to you esthetically) limit the way you can work the knife in comfort.
Not a 110 fan. Owned one for about 2 weeks in 1971 before a SF policeman took it home with him and I spent the weekend in their "Ministry of Justice" . My brother just gave me another, a few years ago. Pretty damn heavy for what it is good for. It's pretty when it's all shined up.
YMMV, of course.

I have one finger grooved and several that are not and I perfer the plain model if you only own one....

I've used both, but I prefer the plain handle minus the grooves.

Personally I feel the finger grooves just make it less comfortable to use in any grip and that the regular model is more versatile. Just my opinion though.

I have both, but have no preference. Buzzbait, that's some good looking stag...

My first 110 had finger grooves and I carried it for years. I thought that my buddies LB7 Schrade felt funny without the grooves. Somewhere along the line I lost my original 110 and replaced it with a plain model because that's what the store had.
Now the plain model feels fine, the fingergrooved version, a little strange. I think which ever one you get used to will be fine.

I agree that the FG's make it harder to work with a knife in any other position other than a normal full grip for slicing downward, but I love the way it feels in that one position. I have a Buck 110 I am still working on, but so far I replaced the scales and added my own FG which are deeper and more like the FG's on the 560 (titanium 110).

If you can swing it, but two 110's one with and one without FG's Here is a pic of the one I am working on. Either way it will be a great knife.

With my big mitts the finger grooves don't work so well. However, I'm sure for others they fit great.

So, I would pass on the FG's.

Now if the 110 only had a thumb stud :\ Are there any sites that sell customized 110's with 1 handed deployments? O.o (I lack the equipment and/or ability to possibly do anything like this on my own if there was a way).

Going agains't the currant, I like the finger grooves. I find I can get a better grip on the knife with the grooves.

I prefer the finger grooved version. I've never found it to be uncomfortable at all.

Last Sept. I skinned out the head of my antelope and used a 110 with finger grooves and I had no trouble gripping the knife. It was quite comfortable.

Bussbait-: Nice knives but your photography really sets them off nicely. Good work.

Buy the Wally World plain 110 - a great user - and a reasonable way to 'test the waters' with a 110!

But... beware the Buck 110 - it is infectious. I 'had' to buy these - and more. The left hand most one in jigged water buffalo, nickel silver, and BG-42 was ordered with fg's - I won't do that again. Of course, the Ti-handled 560XLT only came with fg's, so it was a non-issue. The fact is, they just are too restrictive in your 'hold' - plain, like the far right $25 Wally World 110, isn't. The best fg approach, to me, is just the forefinger groove, like in a Kershaw Junk Yard Dog II - a great choice, too, if you have a few bucks to spare.

Welcome to the world of Buck 110s!

I'm still experimenting with the 110's... I got my first FG about a week ago.
I have big hands and the grooves actually fit my hand well, but I like to be able to move my hand where ever I feel it needs to be at the time, and with the grooves it isn't as easy to do.. I think I will stick with the standard versions.
