Buck 112 "Nail Nick" Questions

No need to ask there I'll just tell you how it should be here LOL. It should stay, even when i pinch the blade it gives a better purchase. In fact i hardly use my nail but i still use the notch for traction.
To me it in no way detracts from the aesthetics.
I have no strong opinion on it. it they removed it I wouldn't care. if they leave it I dont care.

so leave the nail notch Buck someone here does care.😁

Well said
I always pinch the 112 open, so I was of the thought that it was unnecessary. You, however, are absolutely correct. Even pinching it open, the nick provides traction, especially if your hands are not clean, or wet and cold. It serves a useful purpose so it should stay.

While we're discussing the nail nick, I'm curious about lefties. Do you ever wish the nail nick was on the opposite side of the blade or have you never thought about it? Most contemporary lock blades are more ambidextrous friendly - i.e. Spyder hole, double thumb studs, etc.

From experience I can say that the position of the nail nick on a knife is way down the list of things inconvenient for lefties.
I'm sure it is for most, but since this is a knife forum, it seems like it could be relative to lefties on this forum.

Have you ever seen a left-handed stockman pattern knife—the nail nick on the right hand side of the blades?

I haven't either. It would take almost complete re-engineering of the knife. For a pocket knife I think the position of the nail nick is so inconsequential that it isn't worth worrying about.

I agree, Bert. My question to lefties was simply out of friendly curiosity. I wasn't suggesting we start a campaign. :)
