Buck 119 dulling.

Does anyone have this issue or have a solution for it.

My buck119 dulls around the belly due to the leather* sheath. When it's in the sheath it rattles around and rubs against the sheath in that area a lot and it causes the edge to dull. Does anyone have a solution to this?

I should add that I've recently been carrying my buck for a few days all the time and haven't noticed any dulling that was significant (not sure if there has been any at all) although it still does rattle. When I did have it dull it when I would shake the sheath with the knife inside causing rattling and through that it would dull.

You obviously have a Kydex sheath. The solution is to buy a leather sheath.

Just throwing in my 2 cents but most plastic sheath inserts I've run into, if removable from the sheath, can be form fitted/adjusted by
using a heat gun or hair dryer. Maybe that might apply here, maybe not.
Interesting. Do you know of any youtube video that does a tutorial on it?

I wasn't aware that Buck had begun using plastic inserts in their leather sheaths. None of mine do. The best ones I have come across are the inserts Roselli uses. When I remade the sheaths for my Roselli Carpenter and erapuukko (the originals are cheap, thin leather) I kept the inserts.

I use a KA-BAR sheath too for my 120, a Triple K for a 119.

I’m not a fan of Buck sheaths except for the 124 sheath.

My buck 119 rattles like an old beat up 69 pick up truck.

I bought it in 2006. But it doesn't mess with the edge that I could tell. The rattling as you're walking through the woods can be quite annoying. That's my only complaint.
Edit I think I'm going to look into one of those k bar sheaths

You could make your own. Create a paper template you like and then buy some leather and make one. It isn't hard to do.

As I said. KA-BAR sheath for 120 or Randall model 1. Triple K 6” fits 119 or a PAL-36. 5” fits a USN MKI the 4” with a Western L66. These sheaths carry well and do not rattle.

I don't think I have the patience or the skills to do it myself. So I wouldn't even attempt it. I could do kydex but leather is a whole new ball game.

I might end up doing that if I can't fix it. It's such a beautiful sheath and it's a sheath it has this one flaw.

Dulling a 119? Had that issue once - I put a mixture of a half cup vinegar, half cup bleach, quarter cup flour onto the hollow ground part, wrap it in aluminum foil (tightly), place it in a pan for no longer than 30m at 405f in the oven, and I usually don't have that problem anymore.

I personally use an SRK sheath from Hale Storm Hale Storm for my 110 as it fits, has the Kydex, but is larger ever so slightly to not smash on it, and holds it in place well.

Back when I had a 119 ages ago itther was no plastic insert inside the sheath.
Could you verify that the plastic insert is removable? Because if not, it can not be modified.
If it can be removed, could you show us a photo?
