Just got the Buck 124 today, and I really like it.

However, it has a bit of a finish issue and I wonder if this is common, or should I exchange the knife?

Note how the metal along 124 and USA is more polished than the other parts of the blade:

It's like they didn't give it that machined look like the rest of the knife, or when they were polishing the handle they accidentally polished that part of the knife, too.

Totally common for a hand finished knife. All mine are like that to one degree or another. Keep it an enjoy it.

Oh really! That's awesome, glad you chose BUCK there really nice knives. So many variations, types etc. Welcome aboard! :)

It may be also, But there's more material gone than should be. Look at the pic I posted above, its much older but still.

I think you are right. I just looked at a bunch of pictures in the 2012 model 124 thread, and it does seem to be ground down more. I should probably send it back.

I wonder if the rest of Knife Center's batch is that way (that's where I got it from).

Idk, I would deal with buck directly. That's crazy Idk how that past the final inspection. I just wanted to point it out bc I know your new to BUCK. Sorry bud. But I assure you, you will love that 124. :)

Never hurts to work with the place you bought it from, at least then they would know if there is a problem and can check their inventory if they are so inclined. I'd still never pass judgment without a full length photo.

I sent Knife Center a message with that picture, and noted that it was pointed out to me on Blade Forums. If they have good sense, they'll realize it's good PR for them to assist with this issue :)

I have had nothing but great experiences with Knife Center. If you ask them, those guys will go pull several of the same model off the shelf, hand pick a good one and send it to you.

That's great to hear. When I wrote them, I asked whether or not that knife was representative of a bad batch, or if they could send me a good replacement. :)

Personally, I would call them. Easier to discuss it over the phone.
