Buck 124 Frontiersman BLOCKY handle!

I have never held one of the new 124s, but from this photo, the handle does look exceptionally blocky. The feel of my rounded, late 70s 124, is absolutely perfect. I can't imagine it being any larger or different. Interesting how Buck went from blocky to rounded and then back to blocky. It appears they were trying to recapture the look and feel of the originals.

I think the 124 is the best looking knife ever made...
I agree.

Ok I had some extra time today so here are a few shots so you can see the old Phenolic handle, Micarta handle, Wood handle, LE handle

JB awesome knives. Who customized the stag below the Heath Stone custom? Just wondering why a shorter Handle?

Hi gsea,

None of these are from Heath Stone, with the exception of the McKINNEY custom Elk tip picked up from Larry's list, these are all Buck factory knives. The stag with the thin short handle is one of the Buck 124 LE's form 2006, the handle is the size of a 119. There was a lot of wining from me when I had this one in hand, happy at the time to see a 124 issued, but wanting the blocky full tang model. I was happy to see the old style Micarta 124's issued in 2012. Just waiting for them to issue a full tang blocky stag again!

The one with the thin stsg/ironwood/stag is a blem from the Klink SO series. I guess the blem is due to the very thin handle, I can find no other defect on the knife.

Wow, JB, thank you for the eye candys. Great knives you have. Do you need a white one?

jb,

Fantastic collection and photos for comparison. So which handle is the most comfortable in your opinion?

Jb thanks for the info, I have the same knife and was told it was HS custom.

Also not to hijack, but I will give my 2 cents on handle size. First I have avg size hands (no meat hooks or ladies hands). All the blocky knives are fine but I don't feel like I would want to do delicate work with them. That is fine because they weren't made for delicate work imo, they are great camp knives. For carrying on my side I prefer a smaller handle. The iron/stag feels nice. Also had this 124 customized and the handle is ideal for side carrying.

Thanks Haebbie always wanted a klinkhammer :) What's the white 124 you are putting out there?

Klinkhammer had two set's of 100 series knives made via SO. One was stag/ironwood/stag and the other set was CW/stag/CW these were full sets of 100 series knives each set was to be 100 of each knife and made at the Buck factory. There were many errors (some did not get the serrations, some were stamped wrong....and so on) The errors of these were not serialized and were sold as error/blems. I think I bought the one I have from of one of Larry's lists or an on-line factory store sale. Yours could have been made by HS, I don't think HS was making knives for sale back when I bought mine. All of the knives I have on display are separated from their boxes that are currently stored away from my home so I can't look for the box to see how it's labled.

TAH, I have medium sized hands and Like the large blocky handle fit in my hands. I also like a 911 style pistol with a fat double stacked mag as I also find it 's easier to hold in full combat engagement for me at least:thumbup:.

Thanks JB, I'm going with Klinkhammer error, probably why I got it so cheap, the guy thought it was a HS custom and there was no box.

Thanks for the kind words Herbert! I have one of the Corian MP 124's. However, the white Micarta 124 I bought from Europe was lost is shipment by the USPS who delivered it to the wrong address. Someone in my home town got a very nice gift they did not pay for....:(. Oh well some things are just not meant to be.

Here is the Corian White Wale! (bottom knife)

JB
The stag above the Corian is that a Buck custom or another knife maker?

I gave a white micarta 124 to Dave M. This one went lost by robbery out of his house in Martinsburg West Viginia. No luck with the White Micarta in the U.S.A.? If you have anything to trade I would give you one of mine.

Here are the white ones. On the left is a corian, on the right a yellow (former white) micarta from the early 70s. One of the three light cream white from the left side I would give away.
